I caught a thread that piqued my curiosity about something I don't know the first thing about: Bottom Feeders. I found they are a totally new concept to me, and the ones there are just beautiful! I have a ton of questions, hopefully some of you will enhance my ignorance... ;)

Why use one?
Advantages and disadvantages over other mechs?
Are there any regulated models?
VV/VW?
Are there any pret-a-porter (off the rack) ones or are all boutique articles?
Which are recommended? Highly recommended? Lemons?
Where can I get one should I get the urge to?

Earnest thanks for any input.
I'm a vaping noobie but in the short time I've been into it, I jumped in with both feet. In a short time I went from an eGo e-cig to VV/VW mods and mechs. Also from clearomzers to tanks to RBAs. Currently I'm using a Magneto topped with a cotton shotgun microcoiled Kfun 3.1. and I'm DIYing my juices as well as retrofitting one of my lesser tobacco pipes to accept a 18350. I think I'm in the right track.

Hi

There aren't that many bottom-feeders to choose from. The Reo and the Vmod are the only pret-a-porter, that come to mind, the others, like Pdibs, are currently for a niche market. There is a VV Reo Grand and some mods, like the Phidias, can be used with a kick, but I can't don't know of any there are regulated VV/VW devices, in the sense of like a Vamo or something.

Bottom-feeders are popular since they have the best flavor next to dripping. There's a small bottle in the box and the liquid is squeezed (fed) up into the bottom of an atomizer. That's all there is to it. You can used a plain dripping atty like a 510 or 306, a carto (although if you want to use a carto, why get a bottom-feeder?) or a bottom-fed RDA like the Reomizer (RM2). There are other RDAs that work with bottom-feeders, but I can't remember the names right now.

The Reo is made from solid aluminum. It is a tough little puppy! The Grand and the Mini are mechanical. There is also a VV Grand, but when you read people posting about Reos most are referring to the regular ones. There is also a Woodvil Reo, which is a beautiful device. The Reo forum is very active and full of info. You can find them down in the Suppliers Forum: reosmods. They also have a list of RDAs that will work with Reos (so I imagine with other bottom-feeders too).

The Vmod is a less expensive option. There are posts about it in the Liquid Feed section. Actually, the Liquid Feed section might be good place for you to start, since it's a catch-all for bottom-feeding devices.

ETA: A Reo with an RM2 is heaven! :)

Ocelot,

Many thanks for the detailed reply. I'll lurk the section. For some time I've been dragging my feet about making me a mech out of some SS tubing. Then, I have the good fortune of having close friends with a beautiful automated metal-mechanical shop who are kind enough to please me with some of my more complicated projects, just out of good will.

Now I'm thinking of prodding them to shape me a bottom feeder case out of SS or perhaps black Nylamid (or a combination of the two). My present leverage is that the son of the General Director at this facility is a two pack a day smoker whom I persuaded recently to try vaping. His dad is quite grateful that it seems to be working so maybe it's time to ask for reciprosity. ;)

I have a v.1 Kick which I put in my mechs to use a 18350 so I think it would be fairly simple to design one to acommodate a 18650 and Kick or possibly even two ..650's in parallel. That would kick ...! (pun intended). In the meanwhile I'll take a longing look at the available offerings. :)

Best,

Jorge.

Here's a video of the workings of the legendary REO grand. :)

The advantages (speaking about REO Grand cause aside from a bottom fed mod I got from my man pdib , REOs are all I use).

Fresh squozen juice on demand

Portability / pocketability

Nearly indestructible

Simple to use, fill and clean (you wash it in the sink )

Small form factor (their a lot smaller than they look)

Here's some pix :)

That's a VV grand on the left :)

The VV Reo has been discontinued. But the mechs (Reo Grand and variations thereof) are great. Instead of using a dial to adjust your vape, just change the resistance by adjusting the coil to the ohms that get you what you want.

I always find it helpful to use YouTube because I seem to understand better when I watch. There are lots of good reviews there too. I am getting a reo in the next couple of days and if it is as good as everyone says........I'm gonna be a happy tooter. Good luck to you and don't worry about having bunches of questions. Everyone here is there for you. Believe me. They've help me so many times. Good luck to you.

There are a couple of options for bottom feeders out there. From the Vmod being a cheap and anemic plastic device, to wooden small batch mods from boutique makers that are one of a kind works of art.

I vape Reos all day, every day. Everything else I own is superfluous, and obtained out of sheer boredom.

You buy a Reo with confidence if you know that straight mechanical battery voltage to an RDA with fresh on-demand e-liquid (no dripping) sounds like heaven to you. Buy it knowing it's one of the OG classic mechanical mods that helped mechs get a reputation for being bullet proof in the first place.

If your looking for a bottom feeder with APV regulation, there are not many. There are a couple wooden small batch ones I can think of off the top of my head: Redsky and The Grip. Avoid the Bogger box at all costs, that company has pretty much been proven to have taken peoples money and never sending a mod for it or even answering emails.

The most "advanced" bottom feeding mod looking to hit the market is still on pre-order, and that is the Sunbox E7 coming out of Italy. It's a metal bodied DNA30 bottom feeder with beautiful custom swappable panels you can order to go with it. If your looking for the absolute "latest and greatest APV bottom feeder," I believe the Sunbox E7 owns that seat right now.

Like I said though, I'm happy as hell all day every day with a simple Reo. Pocket friendly, bullet proof, dead simple.

Cheers

I can only say that the Sunbox E7 is worth every Penny. It might seem expensive at first but i vape since 3 Years now and never came across any better Device. Next Step for me is to buy those great looking Wooden Panels and i cant see me selling/trading my E7 ever.

I visited their site, it's like having shoes handmade in Italy; you cannot get a general idea of the finished product cost. I understand the reason for that, being as it is a highly customizable product, but the site is just unfriendly. Guess we're talking over 350€ for the whole setup? It seems great tho. :)
