Bottom Fire vs. Side Fire

Good morning ECF vaping beasts.

I'm still new so I can't post this anywhere else... Apologies for any repeat.

What are your thoughts on bottom-fire vs. side-fire mech mods?

Preference?

I personally prefer bottom and magnetic myself. Though I have a question for you. What about the ones with the firing button on the bottom of the mod but on the side too ( not on the part that sets flat )? No idea what they are called, but saw a few a long time ago. I like the bottom because my ring finger seems to naturally kind of hook and rest there.

I have a Kamry mech mod which is bottom fire / hardware switch. Sadly, I have very crappy over-protection batteries at the moment, but that will soon be resolved with new Sony US18650VTC5s. I do not use a kicker or other power / current limiting as that is the job of a well built coil (and my crappy batteries for now). Otherwise, I have only used Ego style batteries (side-fire) in the past and honestly, I don't have a preference. I think it's nice for variety (and to give your hand a break) to have a couple of different options. My IPV2 has a side fire button and a top fire sensor, so when I get my batteries, that single box will give me two different firing options. Variety is the spice of life! =)

I prefer bottom fire in general because the it helps to keep the overall length of the mod down. This is not always the case obviously.

I prefer recessed, magnetic, bottom-fired mods. I'm too cheap to spring for a quality side-fired mech.

Obviously my 2 regulated tube mods are side fired which is fine.

That's a good question ergonomically speaking, side-fire would be better but they're hideous.

Aescetically speaking bottom fire is much nicer looking.

This is for mechanicals of course I'm fine with my Provari side fire button. It's the ones where the button protrudes an inch or more from the side of the mod that I find unattractive.

As always this is just my personal preference.

Along with the looks factor I THINK side fire requires some wiring which could theoretically make it easier to break. I am not familiar with all the particulars there though. I like bottom fire magnetic with enough throw to feel like I am pressing a button.

I've actually never seen the dual-fires but that's a pretty clever idea. Who makes them?

I'm not sure if anyone has made a mech with dual fire buttons but the ones I've seen have one button that functions as a safety and the other actually fires the device , although there are exceptions , mechs with side fire buttons tend to have amp limits because of the wiring and aren't suited for subohm use , I'd stick with the bottom switch mechs without the limitations .

I prefer bottom firing. I use a Nemesis and love how handy it is. Quite hard to get used to but once you master it it's perfect.

Don't want to steal the thread, but I'm curious as to what happens when you hold the fire button down too long on a mech mod? Is there a
battery type that shuts down when this happens?

I would say bottom fire magnetic for the most part, but I love my poldiacs very much. The side fire on the poldiac is magnetic and crisp and no need to lock or worry about setting it down.

I'm with you! I just ordered this beauty last night:



I've craved this thing since I first saw it, when I first started vaping, but didn't feel up to the challenge of a mech. I think I'm ready now! It actually reminds me a little bit of my sigelei zmax v3, though it's so sleek it makes my Sigelei look gaudy.

I've got a few bottom fires (clones) but 2 side fires (Dominus) and while I do like the .5" shorter length of the bottom fires, the side fires are more natural to me.

Nothing good can happen and it's unpredictable what bad could happen. The coil could burn out and halt any further damage or fail and short, causing a battery meltdown, or it keeps firing until the battery runs out or fails (dramatically or otherwise).
