Hello. This is my first time posting. I am a novice vaper. It got me off cigarettes and I love it but boy can it be a huge pain in the .... sometimes and is becoming more expensive the more I get into it. My first device was an innokin click, then two Kanger evods. My first sub ohm device was the Kanger Subvod. I had a love hate relationship with it.

The Subvod came with the toptank nano. Sometimes I would get amazing flavor and clouds, then sometimes I would get hits that just had no taste at all. Not necessarily burnt, just no flavor. I tried poking holes in the ssocc coils. Sometimes it would work sometimes it wouldn't. The device would work amazing for a few day then I would have those problems for a few days. There was no rhyme or reason to it. After two months the battery crapped out.

I am on a budget so I picked up the istick 40w TC and threw the toptank nano on it. I am using a .5 coil that was barely used and still white. All I have right now is peach rings 50/50 6mg juice from mount baker. Now this juice tasted really sweet and amazing in my Subvod before it crapped out. I tried it on the istick now and while it doesn't taste burnt, it has a weird chemical taste and the flavor overall is just bad. I am on a budget and have more juice on the way in the mail. I don't know what to do or really how to use this device

I am using it in wattage mode and have tried anywhere from 10-40 watts. It seems to be good at around 22 watts, but it still isn't great. I wonder if anyone can help me. The coil is reading at .63. I had received two other coils with it. The .5 Clapton ssocc and the .15NI ssocc. However they are the newer second version that I read online are awful. They have the extra hole, pinholes is the cotton already and aren't tapered at the top. I am hesitant to use them cuz I hear they suck bad. Could it possibly be the coil I am using? It was fine when my Subvod crappped out. I was also thinking about picking up a beard or lost art bottle from the store to try.

Sorry for the long post. I don't really have a preferred vape store cuz there are so many but all overpriced. I usually just get juice from this smoke shop that sells the premium stuff at same as online prices. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. From what I can tell the coils for these tanks are just garbage

First off, the only way to find out if the coils are junk or good is to try them yourself.
Everyone Vapes different and gets different results. Often, improper wick saturation wrecks things right off the bat and results are negative.
Second, the Choice of mod - assuming proper power limitations - has little to do with Good or Bad flavor.
Wrong Temperature, E-liquid Age and Air exposure can change the flavor.

Other factors can apply but in your case, it sounds like Flavor change.
PEACH does not work well with to much Heat. Even if it does not Taste Burnt(Dry Hit) Heat kills the Flavor.
Peach is usually subtle to start with. High Air flow can dilute the Flavor experience.

Exhaling through the Nose can boost Flavor experience.

For Fruit Flavors run that tank at a point 1/2 way of the Coil rating or lower.
i.e. 15w-30w = 22 or lower wattage

Tobacco flavors would run to the high side.

It isn't flavor change because I've been Vaping on this straight for a while. I'm running it at about 22 watts and it's just like when I had the Subvod. Sometimes it taste amazing sometimes it doesn't. It has to be the coils. I poked holes in it again and it got better. Unfortunately I don't have the money to go out and buy a bunch more coils. I have the two I ordered with this still unused because like I said they are the newer version of the ssocc. They have horrible reviews but this is what Kanger is sending out. It's like the beta test their products by putting them on the market. These new ones come with pin holes already in them cuz they knew ppl were poking holes in the original ones. They looks very shoddy, even the way they are packaged. They are authentic tho. Guess I'm stuck with them unless I buy the older ones in the store cuz online this is what they giving now. I will update when I get around to opening one.

So running this at 22 watts seems best, but it is like it has always been with think tank/coil. Sometimes the flavor explodes and it tastes so good I wanna eat it. Other times it's barely there. Not a burnt taste just kind of gross flavorless. I may have to get a different tank or maybe try the older square coils.

I was spending 70 a week on cigs (New York ugh) and currently the minimum I spend now on juice is about 20. Sometimes more if I need coils or something. Still cheaper than cigs but the more I get into this the pricier it gets. I almost feel like going back to the old ego pens that gave a nice throat hit, juice lasted long and coils did. But after subohming idk if I could go back lol.

Sorry your vaping experience isnt going well. All we want is to put our juice in a tank and vape it with no problems. Unfortunately with so many products coming out so fast there are more issues than ever.
Now about the problems you are having with your flavor. It sounds to me like the coil isnt able to keep up. What I mean by this is that its not able to wick up fast enough in between vapes. This is a common problem in the world of subohming since so much more juice is being vaped at a higher wattage. One tactic you could try is before each vape take a few dry pulls before pushing the button. This will allow more juice to hit the wicking material before the coil heats up. You can also try putting a little more time in between each vape to give the coil time to cool down and soak up juice. You can also try adjusting your airflow to different settings and see if that makes a difference.
I know you are on a budget but I could recommend some other tanks that are reasonably priced that should provide you with much better results...
1. Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Tank
2. Joyetech CUBIS Sub-Ohm Tank
3. Innokin iSub G Tank
4. Black Herakles Sub Ohm Tank

Kanger QC sucks, always has, probably always will. The pre-made coils will be hit or miss, for that reason I shelved my subtank. But lately have been loving as a low wattage tank using the RBA head. I build it at about 0.6 ohm with 26g SS 316L and wick with rayon. 25w at 380F on my cuboid is a good flavorful vape.

Do some reading on coil building and tryout the rba. Is your best bet for a kanger tank.

Thanks for the tips guys. Rba doesn't fit in the nano so I'm out of luck with that. I do take pulls with air hole closed and all the other tip provided. Sometimes helps sometimes doesn't. Like I said the newer second version coils I just got looks so cheap. They have an extra wicking hole on the side and they poked random pinholes in the cotton cuz that was the fix ppl used for the previous. They put a bunch in just random spots. I'll prob give one of em a try tomorrow. I have a .5 Clapton and a .15 for TC. I e heard good things about that Uwell tank you listed. The new istick Pico comes with a tank, prob should have dropped and extra 25 or so and got that one.

Yes subohming has been finicky from the get go for me, prob time for a diff tank. Has anyone here had a really good experience with this or the other similar Kanger tanks and coils?

Edit: I'd post a picture of these different coils but I can't do pics yet I believe.

It probably does work well at 0.6-1.0 ohm. The premade coil Kanger included in my kit is 0.3 ohm. o_O

I shelved my Subtanks due to lack of flavor and leaking. My everyday tanks are TFV4s that are juice hogs and would not suit your needs. I got my brother a Cubis Tank and another one for myself and it is a pretty decent little tank at an affordable price. Great Flavor and clouds from the .5 ohm coil. This tank is leak proof and the coils are under $10 for a 5 pack. The tank itself runs about $16 with an assortment of colors and comes with a.5 ohm coil as well as a 1. and a 1.5 ohm. I use mine for work and the .5 ohm coil is on week 6 and I am just now replacing it. My brother uses his as his every day vape and had to change his at week 5. Wattage is run between 20 and 35 watts. We usually start at 20 watts to break in the coil and then up it to what you like.
Great budget tank with affordable coils :)

My Toptank Mini's leaking through the airflow has been annoying.

I've just about decided to buy an Eleaf Pico to replace a Topbox as my carry mod. It looks like you can use a wide variety of coils, (including Vaporesso ccell coils), in the Melo III Mini tank that comes with that one, the chipset is a lot more advanced, and it's smaller, with more secure battery storage. The Pico just seems like a superior device, in all respects. I wish I'd seen it first.

I'm going to also recommended the UWELL crown tank. It's seriously a non hassle great flavor, cloud chaser tank.

I have the crown and a kanger toptank mini. The crown owns the manger in terms of flavor with both their prebuilt coils.

The toptank...lets just say my first and last product from kanger. Why?

Firstly you can't finish the entire tank with their prebuilt coils. The juice flow holes are too far up in the middle so you're going to be left with 1ml of juice in the tank.

Second the rba broke on my first try. Center screw stripped and there's no way to use it.

She'll out 25 bucks for the crown.

I want to get the Pico as a small stealthy device and the Melo tanks are pretty decent too. I believe the 3 is topfill. I think $30 from Vape NW for the whole set-up and 75 watts. I plan on getting my cousin one too.

Yeah, the 3 is topfill, and wide open, so it couldn't be easier. I think the $30 price is just for the mod, and it's $40 for the kit, which is still a great deal. I consider the tank +2 OEM coils to be worth >$10. I already spent ~$100 on that site this week, (very competitive pricing there), but might end up ordering 2 Pico kits, (1 for me, 1 for my brother), as well.

Yeah, the height of the juice flow holes in the Kanger coils, (and the Mini RBA), is really annoying. It's for that reason that if I continue to use the Toptank often, I'll prolly just use the OEM Ni coils and run it in TC so I don't risk any more dry hits. Kanger also has a ceramic coil in development, and I might check those out when they're released.

I've noticed that some of the newer tanks from companies like Horizon Tech use coils that have a lot better designed juice flow holes, and there are a ton more options.

Using a Smok X-Pro M22 mod this morning. It is set at 9 watts. On it is
the RSST with a single coil build that reads out at about 1.25 ohms. I
am using 1.8 milligrams of nicotine per milliliter, unflavored juice base
with a 50% Pg/Vg ratio. The coil is 3 millimeter inside diameter.
Contrary to popular opinion, I'm not using stainless mesh as wick, rather
I use rayon.

Kicking over some nice morning clouds. :)

Still vaping this at the moment. :)

Let me offer some links and advice.

SMOK Pyrex RSST Rebuildable Atomizer - 3ml This has the RSST. One note regarding it, the top cap of the one I use has the air hole bored out to 2 millimeters. This lets the vape remain cool if used properly.

Kanthal Wire 28 Gauge RW0117 - 50 FT 0.31oz Series A-1 Resistance AWG This is the resistance wire I use in building coils. To attain the 1.25 ohms on the current coil, I used 5 to 5 and one half wraps around a 3.5 millimeter coil mandrel. I apologize for misspeaking earlier, the inner diameter is indeed 3.5 millimeters.

Amazon.com : Graham Professional Cellucotton Beauty Coil (Rayon fiber) : Beauty This is what I use for wick, it may be found in smaller quantity on various other online vendors. Be sure it is 100% rayon and not cotton. Rayon used for wick seems to work well for me. It gives flavored juices no after tastes from the material itself.

super_X_drifter The guy in these videos I would call a friend. :) He provides very informative, clear instructions. He does not preach nor convey a sense of being superior. What he does is show clearly, slowly enough to learn how to do things regarding vaping. Pay good attention to how he aligns air holes on rebuild-able atomizers. He also has videos on how to build coils. Granted, I use a hand held mandrel and not his wire tool method, the general principles still apply though.

I did and possibly will still use Hawk Sauce juice. This morning using the unflavored due to not having a squonk kit. The RSST has a poly-carbonate juice tank which is effected a little adversely by Hawk Sauce's menthol. It causes the tank to get all sloppy & not fit correctly together.

Suggesting other RDAs I would suggest a Velocity, Mini-Velocity or a clone by Tobeco of these. Many various online vendors carry them for reasonably affordable prices. They are excellent all around RDAs for both those starting and veteran coil builders, vapers. Someone buying these will not go wrong to purchase a few. I am not making anything at all from the advice offered here. This is simply me as a vaper sharing what I see as good information from some experience.

You may ultimately consider a mechanical mod. Be sure you do research on them, read all you can regarding them. Be careful and understand you genuinely do at times suck on a pipe bomb with them. They are not toys and deserve the same respect given guns, chainsaws, fork lifts and so on. Read up about Ohm's Law if you've not already. Check out the user @Mooch and read his blog for information regarding batteries and safety.

Minor Update: I'm down to 6 watts pushing the 1.25 ohm coil. It is still kicking clouds. :) The rayon is acting the part of a good wick. No dry hits at all & the rayon is not doing any combustion. :)
