I've done up a few box mods, Used Hammond 1590B's (for LM2596), 1591B's (for a VAMO), an empty speed stick deodorant container (LM2956) and an Arlo dna style battery charger unit as a VAMO variant.

The shape of the Arlo is perfect for a dna or VAMO mod, as far as I'm concerned, but unless I'm doing something that requires 3.7 volts, the already built in charging system is worthless for other projects, such as the LM2596 board or an ORK, which take around 7 volts or more.

A problem I have with the Hammond boxes, is that they are angled, instead of being squared. In fact, I've found many of the competitions boxes, whether alumimun or ABS, have the same problem, they are not squared off. And I like a squared box LOL
With no real power tools, other than a drill and dremal, not a lot of free time And arthritis, it's not that easy for me to devote much time to squaring a box. Of course ABS boxes don't normally have the thickness to even make that an option...

My latest box, S3A-382410B New Age Enclosures | Mouser also is not squared, but it has potential for a quickly remodified 14500 OKR T/10 mod (modified cause I thought it would take 2 18650's.. it can but I don't want to cut up any more than I need to..), some epoxy should be able to level the bottom out for me.

So, I'm looking for help from box modders that have a clue on squared boxes. Ready to go for the most part, can be various as to single battery or dual size that can accommodate several different styles of electronics for us to make mods out of. As long as they are easily worked on, and don't break the bank.

Links are welcome! What have we got out there?

Thanks

Just thought I'd respond since no one else has. It's hard to find decent boxes that have good specs. I guess nobody makes any.

I've been looking at this one from Fasttech $2.84 2*18650 Battery Holder Case Box - parallel at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping but it looks like it's too small to make into a Vamo mod. I'm not familiar with the other boards out there, size-wise. It would probably work for a dual parallel 18650 unregulated mod.

Fasttech now has the cloupor aluminum box with all the wires and switches for about 20 bux. Get your chip and build your own. I'm getting one for sure. :2c:
Doesn't do any good for those of us working in 7+volt systems. Only 1 battery compartment. ..

The hammond 1590g is really close to the same size as the hana box and its nice and square. Using a dremel and a little patience, maybe a file or two I think you could get one of those ready for a OKR build. The existing holes in box you could fill sand and paint. Or I did see a OKR build video where a guy named Fred took a 1590g, and squared the box off rather nicely using a 2x4 piece of wood with sandpaper on it to sand the box down. I was pretty impressed, he said that he had no real tools to do it and it was pretty easy. Cast aluminum will sand down for you well even with arthritis, well I hope im not over stepping any boundry I dont know how bad your hands are. No disrespect just trying to help.

Me I just don't get this making mods from these mass produced boxes  Seen some nice ideas like using a battery back up pack so you can get in built charging. I want to build some box mods, but going to use strange boxes and I might even get some material and build my own. Never been one to follow the pack though and don't want to spend time making something which ends up looking the same as everyone else or even worse like something bought.
