Okay, I am going to take the plunge...gonna do it....gonna do it.

I have 2 questions, Hoog............

1. I want the 2xaa box with no switch. Just one more thing to go wrong as far as I am concerned. KISS is my motto.......the question is: I have a box mod someone made for me and it has the switch. I was analyzing the insides and I noticed there is a black wire (I assume the negative) that runs to the atomizer and soldered to the side from the switch. If I don't want the switch, do I need the black wire soldered to the atomizer side?????

2. What 510 battery connector do I use.......you got small, large, sealed, etc. I do like to drip, do I need a sealed 510 batt connector?? I have the normal nicostick mod now and I have no idea what size or style 510 batty connector I need. Heck you even got a gold or silver...any difference there?????

Now get the site open so I can get started while I am hot to trot.......lol.....

im definitely not the person to give advice. but id get the large sealed ones cos they're easy to solder to and as for dripping you going to seal the inside of the box with epoxy (i tried super glue and it didnt work). as for the switch question wait until someone with some expertise comes around! YOU can do it!
does anyone know if madvapes is going on vacation?

You can unsolder the black wire from the switch lug it is currently on and resolder it to the lug that is soldered to the battery contact (right next to it).

For instance, the switch has 3 lugs usually. One unused (don't use this one). The one where the black wire is soldered to and a lug that is soldered to a battery terminal (negative). Just move the black wire from the lug it is currently on to the lug that is soldered to the battery connector. That will eliminate the switch.

This is based on the current battery box I have been using.

This has no on/off switch at all

2 x AA Battery Box Nice boxes with plenty of room to work. Holds 14500 protected batteries without modification. Because there is not master on/off switch, theres a little extra room to work in there. These are the same size as the 2xAA box with the switch.

So where does the black wire go........? I thought I had to put it up against the side of the atty......then where does it go???

You better check how these boxes close. They don't appear to have the rear locking tabs (just like the no switch 2XAA Radio Shack box). That means you will have to use the little screw to fasten it/open it. A major pain and you will end up losing the tiny screw.

I'll take some additional pics of these but they do snap shut, no screw required.. They're from Eagle devices instead of the usual China vendor I get them from.. China vendor is back logged.. Now there's a shocker..

Sandy, don't get too caught up in the COLORS of the wires. Chances are whoever built the box used what he/she had. It is absolutely wrong to assume that the black one *is* the negative, even though it *should* be. Instead, focus on where the wires are connected to and where they are coming from. A simple continuity test confirms physical checks as well. (31 years in the electrical trade and lots of electrical shocks later, I learned to not trust colors) LOL

Well hoog picture or not on your original 2XAA boxes you stated that no screw was needed. No such comment on these.

The question is where does the negative wire attach to (the one I called black)???

In the regular box with the on/off switch it connects from the on/off switch to the outside of the atty. With no on/off switch what is the schematic of the black wire??

I lost out today.......cut my 510 Passthru with the battery............cut the ends from the box off and spliced the USB cable together...........put it in the USB connect and it did not work...so now I am bummed out........then I said not all is lost.......I can save the 510 battery connector...well, after completely destroying it trying to get the connector out.....I can say at least I have the battery clips and the one lone 10440 battery left............lol...

Here is what I am trying to do with the box without the on/off switch

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_j2dz7o1aVwc/Smos-_jjxQI/AAAAAAAAAF4/4Om5Q3MG_lQ/s720/IMG_0019.JPG

Now I am using a 510 connector not an RCA jack..........so I solder from the middle post of the 510 connector to the switch........and I solder the black (is that the negative wire) to the battery positive.....is that correct?????

I am determined to do this........it's simple but I don't know much so thank you guys for walking me thru it. I always assumed the black was negative until a few posts back where the electrician told me that is not always true. Now on my nicostick...there are 2 red wires from the horn switch..one going to the center atty connection and the other going to the positive battery connection............so in this picture the blackwire is throwing me off. Pm'd the guy who made the mod but no response.

Thank you guys for helping.........I can do a nicostick just fine with the on/off switch...don't understand the wiring without the on/off switch.

That black wire in the picture is really positive. Goes from the + battery terminal to the switch, to the center (+) of the atty connector. Looks like there's a strip of metal connecting the - battery terminal to the outside of the atty connector, that's your missing wire!

So what you want to do is run the black wire from the negative terminal of your box to the outside of the atty connector, then the red wire from the positive terminal goes to the switch and then run a wire from the other post of the switch to the center of the atty connector.

And to the electrician a couple posts above.....thank you, too...I always assumed black was negative...you opened my eyes.......and all the rest of you guys for the help...maybe I will post a pix when I complete it!!!!! Now I gotta go to the store and get me another box of Icebreaker gum....$1.49...they only had 2 left....just in case I screw this one up..

My pleasure, Sandy... the box mod is turning out great! Be proud, girl!

After you finish this project and we start walking you through how to re-wire the house <g> in a few weeks, those colors are going to change again! The infamous black wire (theoretically) will be the one carrying 110 volts! The opposite of black or the white wire will be the *ground*! Sometimes both the black and the white EACH carry 110 volts or 220 volts! LOL

('tis why I say to pretty much ignore the colors and trace 'em out) =)

Back to the mod, you did the smart thing to post a pic, Sandy. WTG!

I hate to contradict you, Hoog, but I recently ordered two of your no-switch 2xAA boxes. They do not snap shut. They do have a screw hole, but did not come with screws. I don't know if mine are Eagle ones or Chinese ones, but they look like the ones in the links above.

Okay, one more question and I am going to place an order with Hoogie......

The 510 connector..........should I get the large sealed one, the brass one or the silver one...I don't know how they are different. I am also going to get the 801 I think for the PT I am gonna make unless I go with all 510 connections with an 801 adapter......

Why is there a sealed 510 connector anyway....the purpose?????

So anyone with an idea on what 510 connector I should buy???? Stomp??? Richie???? Hoogie?? Tomorrow I order and I am on my way, I think...lol.....

They are sealed so you don't have to worry about liquid leaking inside your battery box. I'm not sure on the size differences of those. I would guess the larger would be easier to solder, the others might be smaller to fit into tighter spaces.
I would go with the same connector on all your mods, and then use an adapter for your 801.

edit: Check this thread, ref picture comparison of connectors
