Greetings all! Here's a quick bit of background on me.

Ive been smoking for 30 years, mainly Marlboro (Red, Lights, Ultra Lights) with a recent stint with rolling my own and also American Spirits. I began reading about e-cigs and thought I would give it a try. I went with the Blu starter kit, mainly because it was fairly inexpensive, has the charging pack, plus it had 30-day guarantee and free shipping. Not to say I am cheap or anything. I just figured if this was a failed experiment, I might as well lose as little money as possible.

Got the Blu in the mail yesterday, charged it up, and well, it seems to work fine. I'm just not sure what I should be expecting. I should add that, as an added "complication" to the experiment, I was laid up for the last 2-3 weeks which resulted in 2-3 weeks smoke free. Great, I know, but it does throw a monkey wrench into the experiment a bit.

Anyways, it seems to be producing a fair amount of vapor and I can feel the throat hit (16mg strength). I made sure to try and remove all the foil from the cartridge, which helps a lot.

As for the over all experience, I am not sure what to expect. Should it feel and taste very close to smoking? To me, it kinda feels like, if I was smoking outside and it started to rain, and just as I was taking a hit, a raindrop extinguished the cig. Sort of like stale-ish, wet-ish, cool-ish, bit in the same neighborhood as smoking. I'm more than willing to accept that. After all, smoking was a taste and sensation we got used to. In the general scheme of things, it should really be something considered pleasant or good. Just something we learned to like.

As for the taste, I woul really like to try something with more substantial flavor, we it tobacco, coffee, mint, whatever. The flavor of the Blu cartridges seems very subtle.

Does anyone have experience in dripping Blu cartridges? Or are there other things that can be substituted? I saw those blue sponge inserts available at some site , but I see the actual Blu cartridges have those plastic flavor inserts with the foil seal.

Any insight would be helpful.

Also, I was wondering if there is information about what exactly is in these things that I am inhaling. I think I read on Johnson Creek's site that they make theirs out of food-grade glycerine, but what about the rest?

Another question - Is this supposed to be odorless? My kids said they can smell it. And what about the effect on your breath or clothes? I am sure it is much less than traditional smoking, but I was just wondering.

Thanks again all,

As for flavor, I'm still finding out quite a bit myself as I just graduated from the Blu to a 510 myself. I can tell you though...there are liquids out there for the 510 that blow the Blu away. I'll let some of the more experienced vapors give you advice on that though.

I have dripped with my Blu. Be careful though. Those have automatic batteries, so if the liquid leaks through the atty, it goes straight into the battery & will short it out. Having said that, the Blu can produce a really good amount of vape & flavor (for a super mini) if you're dripping the right liquid.

As for the odor. The odor can be noticed by some. I know I've had people tell me they can smell it when I'm doing it. Although they usually like the smell (it is SO different from the smell from analogs). The smell dissipates really fast though -- as it is just the vapor people are smelling...so it goes away as the vapor blends in with the air. And the coolest thing...it is not like smoke. It does not stick to you or make your clothes or hair stink (unless of course you get the nicotine liquid itself on you).

No more yellowing of finger nails & teeth. No more stinking hair & clothes. No more waking up with a mouth that tastes like an ash tray.

Hope I've helped a bit...

Mainly the base in any e-liquid (unless specified as VG or Vegetable Glycerin) is Propylene Glycol. Is is up to you te decide if it is safe or not and there are some links in the Health and Safety part of this forum that can you may want to look at too.

Once you get into refilling your own cartridges, you will be able to experience some better flavors, strengths, throat hits.. etc.

I will say one more thing, i started smoking the e-cig and was quitting regular cigs (same as you: marbs, marb lights).. and i ended up ODing on nicotine 2 times (i think?). Got very sick, lots of nausea, vomiting, cramps like crazy -- and i was using 16mg and 24mg juices. Depending on how much/often you vape this may or may not be an issue for you. But be aware that you are giving your body much much more nicotine easily, efficiently, and more enjoyably than a regular cig. Even though an overdose to die is like 60/70MG and and is not really a big worry with the amount you would get from a traditional e-cig, because nicotine wears off relatively quickly.

Thanks for all the info, guys!!

CAarnold40:

As far as the 510 vs Blu, how do they compare for vapor output?
And what do you mean "flavors for the 510"? I thought any flavor juice can be used with any e-cig, as long as there is a way to drip it.

Can 510 drippable cartridges be used on the Blu?

Hey Weinster,

I actually just wrote a long response and then.. closed the damn window

Anyway

for some review of the 510, I recommend this video: (You had asked about the amount of vapor - what's better than Seeing it in action?)

I myself was a long time smoker who ordered the Blu as my first kit. I returned it for the full refund within a week because it didn't give me what I needed. The flavors were not very good, the battery life was terrible, and I could go through 3+ cartridges in a day fairly easily.

I would definitely recommend something like the 510 or the Janty Stick because those issues aren't really there for those. After I returned my Blu's, I got the V2 stick from Janty and haven't looked back. I was going to give up on e-cigs altogether and start smoking again, but after being recommended by a friend, I gave it one last shot.

As for refilling Blu, it's possible (I did it), but not worth it. If you take the actual spongy part out of the cart, you'll see it's about the size of a pencil eraser. I imagine they're easily less than half a milliliter, whereas most of the carts for "full size" e-cigs are 0.8-1.2ml, allowing for less refilling.

For taste, I've never tried any flavor that's even close to a real cigarette, but now that I've been vaping for about 7 months, I'm glad there isn't. There are so many other great flavors out there that I'd rather not have the taste of a nasty analog in my mouth anymore. :)

Blu would be ideal for someone that is a casual smoker and there are many out there. But for someone that smokes a pack or more a day, I found it just didn't do it for me(as have many others). It's a decent design and the PCC it comes with is great(better than most) but carts are what kills it. You have to learn how to work with a Blu to get it to perform at it's best. Oh and the carts can be refilled, Just need an metered method to do it properly. I used a syringe. It can and does work decent, just not great or awesomely.

I just started e-cigs not too long ago, and have the Blu as well. I can tell you that although there alot of bad reviews I personally don't think it's all that bad. The battery life is pretty crappy but, then again I'm using it alot. The cartridges that come with it aren't very flavorful and seem to run out pretty quick but, I now refill them myself. Since refilling them myself I have noticed a huge increase in vapor production as well as flavor. So, I guess my advice would be that if you decide to keep the Blu make sure to keep your batteries charged and try refilling them yourself. You will be much happier with the results.

I have had my Blu now and I love it. Had some problems at first with vapor production. Mine produces great vapor for about the first half of the cartridge, then falls off. I solved this by saving the half cartridge in my charger pack, putting a fresh one on, when that one peters out I take the fiber fill out of it and put it in the other half, dump the juice in and keep going. Not much fuss. I am not terribly fond of the cartridge flavors, so we ordered some refill juice. I plan on keeping the polyfill doubled though, or using the Pyramid tea bags from Lipton (my hubby likes this method) What I do love about them is portability, and the fact that it comes with everything you need and then some. I can change batteries while driving, or cartridges...not much to fuss with. A lot of people give the Blu a bad rap, I love it. I also don't have a few hundred to drop on some of the brands people here are promoting. This made more economical sense.

Oh..the bad side, their customer service totally blows. Hubby has a bad battery on his, and they want him to pay to ship it back and then see if they will replace it and he will have to pay to ship the new one. Stupid. We requested the "customer service" rep to forward the complaint on up until it gets resolved, and are actually considering having our attorney write them a letter. The part was defective when it arrived, it should be replaced since we paid for something we expect to work.
