So a few days ago my hubby & I decided to make the change in an effort to completely quit smoking. We were smoking up to 2 packs a day each.
We went to a local vape store. Our first mistake was announcing to the clerk behind the counter that we were new to vaping, no idea how it worked, or what we were doing. But we had heard that it was a better alternative to smoking and could even help us quit. Even the 3 employees agreed and promoted this idea.
Unfortunately, cuz we are new to this, we got scammed.
I cannot use the vape properly and having severe nicotine withdrawals. Even a small drag makes me cough uncontrollably. I still have a dry cough when I first wake up. And I cannot tell any difference in breathing or energy after 4 days as promised by the store owner. And after reading several articles online vaping is just as dangerous as smoking, still inhaling chemicals that cause cancer, just as addictive as cigarettes, and found no studies where vaping successfully helped someone quit.
My hubby is doing really well. But he can lay cigarettes down and after about a week he's quit and back to normal. This is my first rodeo trying to quit.
Yesterday I bought a pack of cigarettes and some tar bars. I was going crazy trying to quit cold turkey with a vape. I love the smell and taste of vape, but I'm not getting anything out of it but coughing...ever single time I try to take a drag.
And yes I know how to vape...I know to put it to my lips, start inhaling, hit the button, continue breathing in and then exhale...only it never works like that. Before I can even exhale I am coughing like crazy and taking tiny little draws. As soon as I hear the crackle I release the button.
So to help with withdrawals I am smoking 3 cigarettes a day with tar bars and never a whole cigarette at a time. I'm afraid I just wasted money on a device that is useless.
I cough so bad that after 4 days I am still on the same tank of juice that was filled in store when we purchased them.
Starting to wonder if maybe I should just use cigarettes and step down since I cannot get anything from vaping cuz of cough.
My oil is 3 mg tobacco and my vape is a sigelei sibra f. Thanks for reading.

First, let me say hello and welcome to the forum.
Now to your experiences with vaping. I was unfamiliar with your setup and looked it up. It appears to be a great little setup. Coughing is common with new vapers. The vaper is heavier than the smoke from a combustible cigarette. It sounds to me like you are trying what we call DTL (Direct To Lung) vaping. You don't have to inhale the vapor to get the benefits from your vape. You can draw in the vapor and hold it in your mouth then exhale through your nose and mouth. Just like you used to do when you were learning to smoke a cigarette.
Another method is to draw a small vape into your mouth and then draw it into your lungs, MTL (Mouth To Lung).
Take it slow and easy and you will do fine. Don't worry about cigarettes. Only count the ones you don't smoke.
I personally think the ejuice you got is a little weak for a person that was smoking 2 packs a day. I would suggest 9 or 12 mg/ml.
The above is my personal views, other views may vary. I hope you get your vaping worked out and remember to ask questions. I would say there is no stupid question but I have worked customer service for quite a few years. lol Ask anyway, that is how you learn.

I'm pretty sure that way back when you first began to smoke, that the cigarettes made you cough. You learned how to tolerate the smoke.

Vaping is the same scenario. Before long you will learn how to tolerate the vapor, too. Thousands of vapers will agree with this. You're no different than the rest of us.

Hi and welcome.
Sorry to hear of your plight. That unit is not the correct device for you.
Return to the store and attempt to get a refund.

You need a MTL, cigarette type draw device.
Pick up a Juul kit.
3mg/ml is far far too low to be effective for you. (IMO).

Where are you located?

Cheers

I agreee with Izan.

Good Starter Setups for a Beginner Vaper

You probably need to find a tank like the Innokin Zlide, Innokin Zenith, or Aspire Nautilus. All three are "Mouth-to-Lung tanks". You can put either of these tanks on practically any "mod" or battery device.

It doesn't appear that vape shop had your best interests and was only looking to profit at your expense.

Don't forget that there are chemicals in cigarette tobacco that makes it more palatable and the smoke less harsh to inhale. There are none of these chemicals in vape juice, which is why you will cough using it until you are used to it.

Time to find a different vape shop that caters to new vapers looking to quit smoking instead of the shops that cater to the hobby vaping crowd. Large stick devices like the Sigelei that you purchased is not what you need, take it back and demand a refund or exchange, it has very poor reviews with most giving it a do not buy rating.

Starter kits like the Aspire Zelos with the Nautilus 2 tank are a perfect device for smokers looking to quit. You will still cough but that is part of vaping until you get used to the vapor. Juice with a high level of PG can also make you cough, you might want to ask about Nic Salt in a different shop.

Welcome! Sorry to hear you, like me, had a bad experience at a shop. You've got some really good advice here, so I'll just echo and reduce...

You're getting too much vapor with too little nicotine. I just dropped to 3mg on a similar setup. I was using 50mg when I quit smoking in February.

The nic in vape is best taken in in the mouth an nose. Inhaling to the lungs is optional

When you roll the vapor in your mouth and nose, you'll get more of it in you're system.

Maybe try turning down the power to the coil. Even below the recommended range, it will still work.

I looked for a JUUL device but they didn't have any. I will call today and check their return policy. I purchased my vape at wild vapors located in Sylacauga, Alabama.

Welcome!

I agree that you bought the wrong setup. Your device is not adjustable and designed for low resistance and big clouds. Get a variable wattage device like the above mentioned Aspire Zelos and a mouth to lung tank like the Zenith and some higher nic juice. Then you can lower the watts to something you can handle. Your lungs are probably damaged from years of smoking. It will take a few months to a year before your body can heal them.

Welcome to ECF RuffNeckChick, well done for trying to kick the Nasty habit and give Vaping a good try! Don't give up just yet!
Get yourself a more suitable tank and you will have much better success. You'll get better advice here than you will from any store I can tell you that much:thumbs:

This time quitting I started with my son's VERY CLOUDY setup that was wrong for me in all ways. I bought a small, inexpensive MTL tank to put on my "big box" mod and I will say, if I had given up 2 or so years ago, I would probably be dead or quite a bit closer with an oxygen tank.

I really hope you don't give up. What you spend on your new MTL device you will save in DIVIDENDS by going through less eliquid.

There are some great MTL tanks out there these days including the Aspire N2S, the innoken Zenith, and others. The T-series of vape pens by Innoken are much loved by new quitters also, and they don't cost an arm and a leg.

Best of luck, welcome, and don't give up! Depending on your smoking habit I would look at juice in the 16 to 24 ml range and the nice thing about higher nic juice is, it does NOT cost any more than low nic juice and you will go though far, far less of it.

    Welcome :)

Welcome aboard and as others have said - well done with your decision to get off of tobacco.

Amongst the many other additives cigarette makers put in their tobacco are some designed to cut down the natural cough reflex that inhaling smoke causes - e lquid doesn't have this so it is normal to cough when you first try vaping - but imho there are ways to minimise this.

Flavour of the month vaping devices at present are in the main designed to produce loads of vapour using sub ohm coils with low nic juice fired at high wattages and used with the Direct to Lung method. By and large these tend to give a warmer drier type of vapour.

As has also been mentioned, these are not always the best type of device to start with.

Personally I would recommend you start with a tank designed for Mouth to Lung vaping such as the more modern Zenith. or the older original Nautilus Mini, with a 1.6 ohm coil and stronger liquid ( probably at least 16/18 strength).

You were, like many of us, a fairly heavy smoker and initially you'll need a good bit of nic to keep the cravings away in your early vaping days.

Again I'd recommend setting such a tank and coil at around 6.8 - 8 watts which will provide an adequate ammount of vapour but it will be cooler and possibly a little moister which will also help with the coughing bit.

    All the best meantime!

Welcome to the friendly bunch :)

Sorry to hear that your experience has been so off putting. You've had some great advice from the other responders so not much I can add really except to say that your nicotine level needs to be much higher...at least 18mg/ml....that is what I vape on a daily basis. If you go the salt nicotine route you can increase that to 36mg/ml or even 50mg/ml.

It essential that you get your nicotine hit so that it satisfies although there is always other parts of why you smoked that you still have to fight.

Anyway I hope that you managed to exchange your purchase and get something more suitable and that the coughing has got better...

Always someone around here to answer your questions :) Keep up the good job.
