Howdy all,

Brand new at vaping and I have a few questions. A few weeks ago, I purchased my first eCig kit. It's a Bonnair Platinum kit with the annoying little LED and such. I purchased a few boxes of cartomizers with it as well. The cartos worked fairly well, but I got a few "duds" in one box, so I inquired at my local smoke shop where I bought my kit about going to eliquid. He hooked me up with a bottle of "Marlboro Chocolate," a box of tanks, and a brand new atomizer which lightened my wallet about $30.

Already I've learned that I like the throat hit from the eliquid much better than the cartos. I'm wondering though, how do you tell when the juice is dry? The guy at the shop said that 3-4 drops would last the equivalent of 2-3 packs of analogs for an ex pack a day smoker. Is that true?

Also, is the Bonnair a decent brand to start with? I plan on graduating soon to a Tornado Tank or similar...

They don't look too bad. Check the suppliers' tab at the top of the forums and see what they have that's comparable.

Juice wise- I was a pack and a half a day and vape maybe 150 drops a day- 30 ml. a week.

When you're running out of juice you get less vapor and soon afterward a burnt taste.

Ahhh....so a few drops doesn't last for days for a pack a day guy then, right? Figures! A salesman that lies...lol!

Three or four drops will not last anywhere near as long as 2 - 3 packs of cigs. May not last as long as 2 - 3 cigs. Pop the end cap off the carto and drip the liquid in until the filler looks slightly slushy/mushy. When the vapor production drops off, time to refill. If you vape it dry, the filler will burn.

I hate to break it to you but if you were told that 2-3 would last as long 2-3 packs of cigarettes, then you've been lied to. There's no way that 2-3 DROPS are going to last that long. You'd be lucky if it's the equivalent to ONE cigarette. Most of us go through 3-6mls of juice per day. There are much better kits out there. You should check out Smokeless Image. They have some excellent kits and replacement parts will be easy to find because it's a KR808D-1 battery.

Well, to answer one of your questions...NO. 3-4 drops will not last you the equivalent of 2-3 packs. 3-4 drops might last the equivalent of one cig.

Maybe he meant 3-4ml would last that long for a PAD smoker. I was a heavy smoker (2+ PAD) and go thru about 3.5 to 4ml a day.

PS: The Tornado would probably be a much better choice

Thanks for the responses everyone. I kinda figured he was lying to me or didn't really know himself. Oh well...I like it...for now. Soon I will be upgrading.

Juice usage depends on the ecig. One my weak first ecig I use 1.5ml per day and was vaping the equivalent of about 1.5 packs worth. But now I have better ecigs and use 2+ ml per day. Some people use LR cartos or LR attys on big battery models, or use variable voltage or use tanks, and all of those can burn through liquid faster, Some people use over 5ml per day.

How do you tell when what is dry>

Carts - you get burning taste
Dripping - you get a burning taste
Cartomizers - you don't run them dry because burning taste may mean you ruined the carto. You keep the carto damp and get as much use as you can out of it.

I hope you have manual batteries. If you have auto then be very wary of juice leaks - auto batteries can be much more easily damaged or killed that way.

The guy at the smoke shop may have just been repeating what he was told by a sales rep. However if you know he is a vaper than he was just lying to you and I would avoid giving him any more business. I got the same pitch from the "51" kiosk and the guy was demonstrating these to everyone so in my case even if he was not a vaper he had to know how much he was going through and will not get any repeat business from me.

LOL...the salesman that sold me my first kit fed me the same crap..... bricks and mortar juice is 1 drop=1 pack.... real life/internet juice 1 drop=1 cig...maybe.... but thats up to you.

Thanks a ton for all the replies. I was hoping I wouldn't spend as much on this stuff as I did on analogs, but it appears that it's about the same by the time you buy all the stuff and then buy the juice...at least it's healthier.

I really do appreciate all the good advice and answers. Hopefully some day I'll be giving advice to someone else on this forum.

actually, the start-up cost is cheaper than buying one carton of cancer-sticks (avg. carton around $80 here atm) especially for one of the inexpensive 510 or 808 kits and extra juice, around $45/kit not including juice......if you think about it, buying more juice, carto's an atty now and then, a drip tip or 2...it still doesnt compare to what you'd spend each week on the analogs...it doesn't take long before you notice you are actually spending a lot less, in the long run...cleaner, safer, healthier, cheaper...I think it's a fair trade

I guess you're correct. I stopped smoking the name brand analogs years ago though. When I started vaping I was paying $3.30 per pack for the analogs I was smoking then. Multiply that by a pack per day and vaping is quite a bit less expensive. Just had to do the math.

no worries at the age of 49, i've been smoke free now since october, put down vaping less than a week after quitting the coffin-nails, started working out again and riding my mtb's...and still went back to vaping I'm enjoying the experience, a ton of different flavors, and the gear, all because I hadn't realized how much was out there and how popular it really was/is, thanks to one of my neighbors that is big into vaping, and he has tons of gear ... wishing I had researched it more when I bought my first e-cig from a cigar supplier I used to buy from, but hey, no worries, I quit and enjoy my new vaping experiences, still sampling different juices when I can...and plan to pick up new gear as well

Yea, I think I'll hang onto my little junky starter kit even after I replace it with something nice though...just as a backup. So it begins...
