Lithium ion batteries do not require breaking in.
Your dud may not be a fake, it may have just slipped through LG QC or perhaps it was stored badly or a number of other factors. However it's advisable to only buy from reputable dealers, not Ebay or Amazon as both are awash with fakes.
If a battery does not perform as you expect it to especially a new one, recycle it and move on. For the sake of five bucks it's not worth it.

To be fair, I got a LG Brown from IMR batteries and it did the same thing. Took a few cycles to charge up right. I wound up recycling it, because it made me feel oogy.

I am very careful with my batteries as I am pretty clumsy with everything else. I am surprised I haven't blown anything up yet, and it's probably due to my good battery hygiene. Etc.

I mean.... Batteries are cheap, don't buy them from Amazon, and given it's AMAZON you could probably get a refund for that one. I might go for a refund on ALL of them, and use a reputable seller.

I also have 3 year old batteries, which are perfectly fine. Who knows the way of the battery but if it is still performing well there is little reason to pitch it, other than if you are me, you will then have WAY too many batteries, .... that is really a "first world problem."
