Okay so I just got my new 510, and I'm trying to break in my atomizer.

I blew out as much primer as possible. I put in my flavor, good to go. When I went to go and switch flavors, I did a dry burn and there was so much smoke! It would probably take an hour to get it to where my other atty is! Is that because it's new? Should I just keep using it, or dry burn until it's dry?

The only reason to dry burn is to remove crud that can build up in your atty. It's a last ditch effort to revive an otherwise useless atty in my book. Sometimes it kills them completely. The best way to change flavors is to use a different atty. The second best way is to use straight PG or VG. Just put a few drops in and vape it till it needs a refill to kind of wash out the other flavor. Other than that, just vape through the mingled flavors until you get only the new one. A couple of refills will usually do it unless it's a really strong one that hangs in your atty a long time.

I've had no problems doing a very quick dry burn in between flavors. My good atty tasted great doing that, and it's not dead. I would do it for about 2 seconds and then change flavors.

It's hard to describe the flavor now with my new one. It's plastic-y but not burnt.

Edit: I blow out as much juice as possible, do a quick dry burn, and change flavors. I haven't needed to clean my good atty at all because it just stays clean this way.

I had issues with the atty threads that they put inside the bridge. Not sure what they use, but they seem to be polyester and they melt like pastic. Sometimes the threads are too close to the coil and they burn....giving the plastic taste. Look down in there below the bridge and see if you can tell that some threads are melting on the coil.

Now that I use a juicebox mod, I remove all those nasty bridge fibers before I use an atty.

I think it's working fine. My tastebuds at this point are probably freaking out but I think I flooded the atty and didn't blow it all out. I didn't do a dry burn and it's fine. I have no idea what possessed me to do a dry burn in the first place, I never do that unless it's time to change flavors... But now it's fine.

Ick, that sounds horrible! Luckily I haven't run into THAT problem.

Yeah I learned the hard way that dry burn is a really bad cleaning method, people should not recommend it. I would either just switch flavors without worry and see if after a few hits the old flavor is gone. If you have time to spare, I would just use boiling water and then let it dry for a while. Some people on the forum have said they use a little handheld steam cleaner like a Steam Shark and that it works well. Dry burns are nonsense though, you'll be tasting that coil for a long time.

It's just strange because I swear by dry-burning, since my old atty produces so much smoke and flavor, and no problems. It's always clean, but I don't dry burn for a long time at all. Maybe just a whim?

Yeah, I guess results may vary on many of these things. I personally didn't have a lot of luck after dry burning a Magma atomizer. I'll get a good hit or two but the coil flavor quickly returns. I didn't do it for an excessive amount of time either, just until all the gunk vaporized and the coil had a healthy glow to it. I went ahead and ordered a Cisco 306. I hear with those, people switch flavors on the fly and after a hit or two the old flavor will be completely gone, probably because at such a low resistance it burns through the liquid a lot easier and doesn't get gunked up.

Thank you everyone for advice and help! Just when you think all is well... hehehe

True, true. The only reason why I started to is because I would taste the old flavors after a while of vaping a new flavor, which bothered me. I would blow out all of the juice, too, but would slightly taste it. I'll keep doing it to the good atty since I'm so used to doing it, but I'll try to just blow it all out and add the new flavor without the dry burn, to see what works.

At this rate, whatever works is great for me! :D
