Brigada box mod clone

So, I've had the Brigada box mod clone from 88 evape for less than a week.
Every time I pulled the batts out to recharge they were at identical voltages, as they should be.
Yesterday, I got home and put them into the charger and one was sitting at 4.2.
I put a fresh set in and vaped for a bit and when I checked them, same issue.
I've tested with a single batt on either side and both sides fire.
I've inspected all the connections visually to make sure nothing's bent or broken.
The mechanics of this mod are so simple...I can't understand how it wouldn't work.
Anybody ever fiddled with one of these?

One of the battery contacts must be loose.
Check the side that had the full battery, and trace the connections from both ends of the battery.

Well, I checked all the contacts, and they're solid.
Also, there aren't any wires in this mod...so really nothing to trace.
I have had luck today by pushing the battery that's on the left, when it's open, a little bit to the right.
I suppose that the battery wasn't making contact because of it's positioning, which is strange because they were both lined up parallel to the side of the mod when only one was providing power.
