I have about 4 510 pass throughs that are no longer working. Some of them didn't last over a month, they start shorting out and eventually don't work at all. These are fairly cheap (about 15 dollars) but I wondered if there was anyone out there that was fixing them, or wanted them for some reason. Is there a video about how to fix them?

I don't know but if you get 5 non-spam posts or replies in New Members and wait an hour then you can ask in troubleshooting or modding parts of the forum.

Are these the PTs with the inline battery? People seem to have a lot of trouble with those and recommend the plain ones. And you are not plugging them into a computer USB are you? Very few PTs can get by with so little power. A PC USB slot is only specced to provide 500mA and most PTs need more and it's recommended to use them on a 2amp USB to AC or a USB to AC sold specifically for that PT.

Yeah they were used on a computer and they worked fine, this was during my newbie stage. That is what the supplier said to do with them. But I got a wall plug from madvapes (I think) and I tried them all on there, with limited reliability. Move the cord this way or that and they stopped working. These are the no battery pass - throughs and they worked great for a little while, some of them up to 2-3 months of heavy vaping before the shorts started. If I got a new one and only used a wall unit, I don't know if it would really make a difference. It is just really close quarters in that 510 tube, and I haven't taken one apart yet to see if an easy connection is broken somewhere.

Yeah moving the cord should not make them work or not. They sound bad. Are they auto or manual - auto switches can also get really wonky. Manual highly recommended.

You're at 3. Don't post sequentially or mod might pull one. You could go welcome a couple of people. Then an hour or so later you should be able to post where modders and troubleshooters hang out.

I just got a MAP tank (2.4), and kinda skipped over the CEe2's and I am think I might need to try one or a Fluxomizer, since the tank is working so well.

Well, the guts of a MAP tank IS a Ce2.. Check out the vid that BigBuyer does using an old 510 battery to pull the guts out.

Hi Dan,

When i bought the passthroughs from MadVapes, I read the reviews. One person said to reinforce both ends of the wire with electrical tape. I did that and mine has been working for 2 months! I even mash the thing putting it in my purse!

At the USB end that I plug into the wall adapter, I taped it rigid into a line so that it couldn't wiggle any way- it's immobile. At the other end of the wire that goes into the LED light, I formed that wire into a loop and taped it 1/4 inch away from the LED light. It's tape4d to the body of the passthrough but I can still see the LED-light light up and the tape doesn't interfere with the button. That wire can't wiggle either because it's taped into a very short loop.

From what the reviewers were saying, it's the wiggling motion of the cord that makes them short lived. Try taping your next new one and see if it prolongs it's life. Get the wall adapter too for $10. No sense taking a chance of frying your motherboard!

My experience has been the exact opposite. The PT I bought ages ago from Cignot with an in-line 14500 battery has survived use and, even worse, much time knocked about on the passenger seat of my car. Both of the entry-level 5V direct passthroughs died very early deaths. In my own post elsewhere about this and others I've read, I hear good things about the acrylic models from Madvapes (as opposed to the cheaper 510 looking one they sell which was one of my short-lived PTs).

That's a great idea, once you have a short in one it's apparently too late.

I have used this advise and gotten a new pass through and taped it up as advised, and after lots of heavy use! Thanks for the great advise Lori!

Ummm... just an FYI.. the ones with the battery are OK on a computer USB. The other one that you mention (without a battery) needs the 2.0 amp wall wart.

And I wonder, if the ones with the battery (in a box in the middle of the cord) don't cause extra "pull" on the cord and wear it out faster, hence the tape???????

The non-battery ones are 5 volts.

Here's one
Smok Tech 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough $17.00

I'd still use the tape trick on the end. Also, it's safer to use the wall adapter...not a bad thing. If that wire shorts on the end somehow........ IDK. Usually it just gets a break in it, not a short across the two wires. "good" or not, IDK. Also, you can make em if you have a soldering iron for that same cost and fix it yourself too.

Oh, and try to keep juice out of the button on all PTs
