Brown Sugar Cotton Candy and Ethyl Maltol, Similar?
My taste buds might be gone, however is it possible that substituting any one of these concentrates in place of another, pretty much provides the same outcome in a multiple mix recipe?
Note that I'm referring to TFA only in the above question. Other DIY mfr's of Cotton Candy may be distinct.
Wizard : "All Wizard Labs flavor concentrates are undiluted, full strength concentrates from the manufacturer, and contain no Diacetyl.
Recommended usage is to test at 5% flavoring in your solution, and adjust to taste." (TFA?)
TFA Ethyl Maltol 0.5%
Tiny Bit (A fraction of 1% in your mix) - Gives a "body" to the vapor and may slightly reduce sharp notes.
A Bit (Close to 1% +/- in your mix) - As above but will take the edge off sharp notes and may very slightly sweeten.
A Bunch (1%-5% of your total mix) - As above plus sweeten
A Load (10%+ of your total mix) - Cotton Candy flavor (EM info written by Hoosier)
TFA Brown Sugar 1-2%
TFA Cotton Candy 5% and up.
The above percentages were gleaned from past ECF threads to numerous to count or reference.
Very confusing group of concentrate products. Maybe they all probably contain EM in certain percentages.
What I'm trying to understand here is, pretty much knowing the percentages of EM in all the subject concentrates, could one just substitute one for the other and adjust? I guessing that :
complimentary,caramel/cotton candy, richness, moistness, sweetness, smooth, peanut butter effect, taking Edge off, tobacco mix use, etc., (claims for some of the concetrates)
can be accounted for (Example:use in a peanut butter mix) in a PB mix? Use EM or CC in place of and adjust to what you want to bring out?
To say it another way:
If I'm using a peanut butter recipe and it calls for TFA Brown Sugar, could I substitute a low percentage of EM and whatever else I decide to use compensate for with no Brown Sugar available?
Knowing someone will post and state the three all have their particular use in a mix and bring different tastes etc. to the mix is fine, but:
If this does not make any sense, please feel free to ignore.
If this thread sorta makes sense, whats your take?
If you tried substituting and adjusting what did you find?
