I have a question. I currently have an eVic and have never used a mechanical mod, but am really looking at getting one. At the moment the IHybrid Pure is the one that I plan on purchasing. The only issue is I have heard that if you build a coil on a mechanical and it shorts it's bad. Before I planned on getting the hybrid I planned to build the coil on my eVic (because it has short protection) and then putting my rba on whatever mechanical I ended up getting. What do I do with a hybrid???

Multimeter is helpful. You get a feel of what ohms your coil is supposed to read after awhile. If it reads 0, obviously don't fire it, you have a hard short. If it's alot lower than you're expecting, chances are your wick is not oxidized enough, and you'll have "hotspots" if you fire it. You can pulse the button to work out the hotspots. The readings for your coil should match with and without wick installed, if you set it up right (SS Mesh wick, with silica, there really shouldn't be a hotspot unless you're doing something wrong).

If you have a short on a hybrid, the first thing that's likely to happen is your coil will pop, any worse, then usually the hotspring, if any, will give. Of course, you can always use a fuse on your battery as well (shortstop, 2cent fuse, etc.).

Yeah, you're gonna want a multimeter with leads so you can put them up to the terminals instead.

From a safety standpoint and from a breaking-the-battery standpoint, as long as the coil has resistance in the range you expect, you're ok. Hot spots, as Aol said, are more likely to just pop the coil. IOW, a coil with ok resistance and a hot spot isn't "dangerous" to the battery, just bad for the coil.

Also, if you're gonna buy an MM on the cheaper side (no auto ranging), touch both leads together get a reading (mine says 0.5Ω). When you take a reading, (for example, 2.1Ω, subtract 0.5Ω from it, and 1.6Ω is the resistance of your coil).

This is how my first night with a genesis was. Wrap coil, fire, coil popped, curse, unwrap coil, wrap a new one, fire, coil popped again, curse some more, repeat for 5 hours. Went on Youtube, found the Petar K method (you'll see why I said, resistance of coil WITH wick should match the reading you get of the coil WITHOUT wick in), get it working for the one hour in the night before I have to get some sleep. It gets easier over time, these days, I just wrap it on the wick and work out hotspots by pulsing it.

Don't worry/stress too much, try to have another setup handy for vaping, and just put it down if it gives you too much grief.

(You could always just buy a Kayfun and skip all the genesis misery, you're not missing much)

Kiva keep this in mind the Pure the one for $ 99 has the Atty(attached) as a solid unit and can't be removed like the LE'S.
I have a Kayfun it's the best tank I have had to date as I am strictly a dripper.

I didn't know any of the IHybrids could be taken apart. They don't have a 510 connection though?
