DAAAANG! $25 a pop for that regulator is ridiculous when you can put together a TR/3 for around $10.

Its not ridiculous if you want a very stable plug and play switching regulator. For people that like to mod without fussing with building a circuit from scratch it is a very good solution. Extra dollars is the price you pay for convenience, and there are more than a few of us willing to pay for it.

Haha. I think I have a template figured out for that now. AND I think I'll try covering any imperfection in the hole with some kind of bezel to hide the gaps.

You have a lot of experience cutting straight lines Para, yours look great. I made one in the same box. It's exceptable but not as perfect as yours.
Be nice to use a thin black caulking or a bezel frame to cover my boo-boos.

Para, it appears you may have taken offense to my comment, and I can see why. Alot of times, text does not convey the same voice inflections that actually speaking does. I'm glad that you found a condensed solution for your regulator and it IS a nice, easy to use package. Especially the wheel you used for the voltage adjustment. If people are ok with spending $25 for that regulator, they will have the ability to make a really nice mod. There are some of us who are compelled to try building as cheaply as possible though, and those are the ones my comment was actually geared to. And... if my comment did offend you, then you have my apology.

So... Just out of curiosity, how DID you get that rectangular hole so tight and tidy? :smile:

Here's how I make the meter opening:
Cover the area with a piece of tape
Measure and mark where it's going
Rough out the shape using a burr or masonry bit
File the last 1mm or so using needle files

Here's one I'm working on......

The key is squaring the corners. Once you have the corners correct, it's just a matter of making it the correct size. The goal is to not see daylight between the meter and the back.

A frame is an excellent way to cover mistakes....I use the technique a LOT around the house.

Needles files are great. They also make marvelous micro sanding blocks too. I highly recommend.

After my virst VMU build, I started using my dremel with a cutoff wheel, but never thought to use tape to mark my hole. Maybe I should start roughing it out with my dremel and use my needle files to finish it out like you described. Thanks!
