Built my first coil today, but it caught fire.

Learning from mistakes is what will make it a better experience for you. I built my first coil and had everything set up right or so I thought. Dropped my tank and Provari. Then it stopped firing. Took it apart and had all the juice drain out from the drip tip on me and discovered that I didn't screw the coil on tight enough so it fell off when I dropped it. All these mistakes in my opinion make you a better builder.
It was a bit disappointing, but I turned around and installed the dual coils that came with the patriot clone and it works. I should have stated that I used one on the coils that came with the kit as my coil making supplies have not arrived.
I'm vaping the last bit of juice outta my Kayfun now so I can install dual coils tonight. Give her a bath and some dual coils and I think she'll be pretty happy.
sometimes when i have juice in the the deck of my rba and i fire up the coil without a wick i get a flame off the juice, its normal if this is what you mean 
Maybe, but I didn't expect it to do that. Every time I fired it flames came up, there was some burnt spots in the atty as well. I'll try it again later this week. My goal is to stop buying coils for the iclears, aeros, nats, etc. Only keep a few coils as backups for each.
