Hello everyone,

Has anyone out there using the Echo-e cartos for the eGo noticed a 'funky burnt rubber taste' occasionally from them? Just yesterday I opened a new carto and filled it with juice and a few hours later I began to get this horrible burning rubber taste every time I took a drag. This is the second e I have had do this (I threw away the other after I destroyed it trying to clean it). Each time, there was still plenty of juice left in the carto but I would go ahead and top it off anyways. After about eight more drags, it would start to get the funky taste again.

Now usually when a carto gets a burnt taste, I know it is because it might be low on juice, but this is not the case. I am not a heavy vaper so I know I wouldn't run through juice that fast anyways. I am not sure if the type of juice I am using is making a difference, but both cartos it has done this on was filled with a 50/50 mix of cinna-bomb.

Am I missing something here? How long should I let this carto 'sit' after filling before I use? Is it possible that I have just had two bad cartos (I'll be ...... because these cartos cost $5 each and are suppose to last months, not days)? Any advice on this matter will be most helpful. :2cool:

There are several reasons this happens but there are fixes so don't throw your cartos away.

- the juice may not have soaked in well... let it set for a few days.
- the filler is not close enough to the coil.... push it down with a straw or tweezers avoiding the center tube
- The filler is packed too tight... aerate the filler by poking it all over with a needle.
- try filling with a thinner juice on the first fill to get the wick really soaked. Your thicker juice will work well after that.

I finally got all mine to work but it takes a little futzing with them sometimes.

I have not gotten anything higher in VG than 80PG/20VG to work on a first fill. I did use a little distilled water to thin with, that helped. I think that the most likely culprits are the juice not soaking in well and the filler not being close enough to the coil.

Remember - first fill with thin juice so it soaks in well. If it still smells burned then tamp down until the filler makes contact. In extreme cases I've pulled the stuffing out, trimmed it down and reinserted.

Awesome advice thank you! I just went ahead and topped my carto off so I am going to do what you suggest and give it a try tomorrow. I just may owe you a beer! :p

Push the filler down a bit too.... if the draw gets too tight it's down too far and you can always pull it back up again. There is no coil running through the filler so there is nothing to break by doing this.

I'll take that beer any time. *hic*

Lol! I took a pin to the filler to aerate and then pushed the filler down like you suggested, but it was already soaked with juice and I had a quick stream of cinna-bomb shoot out and slime my leg haha! Live and learn what can I say, I'm a newbie... :p

Thanks. I'm going back to 80/20 anyway. I've been ordering some juice in 60/40 and even my boge cartos don't last as long.

Hey Mad,
Don't throw away any cartos after using 50/50 cinn. If you run hot water through them from both sides, let them sit and then wash w/hot water again, let them dry for a day.do a few quick dry burns & then put some other thinner juice in with a higher P/G ratio or straight p/g. You can do this on most cartos especially after 50/50 cinna-bomb.

Another poster said he had great success with very high VG content juice by syringe filling. That makes sense because you can aim the juice at the center of the filling to soak the wicking material.

Hmm. I use a syringe to fill my Echo-e's but your saying to aim the needle on the inside of the filler along the core? I have been aiming the needle on the outside between the filler and the outer wall of the carto this whole time.

Well, it has been almost two days now since I've taken all the advice presented here and for some reason I am still getting the funky taste. On top of the taste, I am now getting a very hot, almost an acidic-like throat hit burn whenever I use it. I have even used the reverse spin technique to drain out all of the juice and refill with all new juice, but same effect. Having used all of the suggestions presented here and on other posts I have found, I am completely stumped and discouraged. This is the second Echo-e I have had this happen on in the last week. I love these cartos but I may have to go back to my mega's. :(

Mad, I have had 2 of these too. Don't keep trying to vape them like that. Whatever is causing it, you don't want to be sucking on it.
I pulled the filler out of mine and it stunk like feet plus something else. I rebuilt one and washed out the filler and it's vaping OK now. But you shouldn't have to do that.
Sad, I was lovin this thing.

Sadly in the last 2 weeks I have had to throw away three, count them THREE of the Echo-e's. One I dropped and it cracked and chipped, one because I tried to clean and it just didn't work right, and the other because no matter what I did I couldn't get rid of that funky taste even after a good cleaning! Right now my last two are currently in use and so far so good. With the two I am using, I have been babying them beyond silliness in hopes I can get them to last me longer than a few days this time.

It is sad, when they work right for me they are really a godsend, but to have two go bad on me in just a few days is ridiculous. I haven't given up total hope yet but if the last two I am using begin to exhibit any kind of weirdness that isn't normal, especially after all the care I am putting into them, then I am afraid that's going to be the end of them for me. :(

i havent had any funky or weird taste in any echo carto so far. its a bummer that yours had it, especially since they are between 3-5 dollars to buy....and 3 of them! i would explain this to the vendor and ask if he would be kind to throw in couple extra in your next order. its highly unlikely that you would get bad ones again on your next order.
when you take the filler out, i wonder if that white glue-like stuff that is on the bottom, is too close to the heating element (coil) and that is what you are tasting? (if so, then its a QC issue). i cant imagine anything else that could give a funky taste since the filler isnt touching the coil.
