Burning Taste - How do I get rid of it? :(

I just got my first PV - the Joye 510 (ordered from Cignot) in the mail on Monday, everything worked fine all day Monday, brought it to my friends house, used it all night without any problems. I've been reading about how to prime it, etc, but I didn't even taste anything odd with the first atomizer I got so I figured it was a good batch. (I got two with my kit) Tuesday morning I wake up and decided I wanted to try my Fruity flavored juice. It tasted very harsh and it burnt my mouth, figuring it was the juice I went on my business throughout the day using it occasionally thinking "Man, I can't wait to get home and grab my other carts.." I then started thinking that maybe it was the atomizer, sure enough I get home and start using the other atomizer and it worked fine with the fruit juice, for a few minutes, now this one tastes burnt.

I went through the dry burn technique and tried that, I washed the atomizer with warm water and then let it vape with no cart/juice to dry out and let it burn all the primer out, I guess. Twice, I did this process with the same atomizer and it still tastes like burning plastic.

First and foremost, what is this primer plastic-tasting burning stuff? I dont necessary like it, it tastes like crap and it kind of worries me that I was inhaling it this morning. Secondly, how do I get rid of it? Should I order new atomizers and just chuck these? I got them from Cignot, has anyone had any problems with them?

Please help!

Could be your atty bridge is dry - did you try dripping juice onto it?
510 atty bridges (the sticking up mushroom shaped thing inside the atty) need to be kept moist.
Did you blow out the primer before you used it? (the 2nd atty , the one thats giving you issues). You should always blow them out, then prime with juice, don't just put juice on it - the taste will be god awful. If this IS the case, just keep vaping but NOT inhaling, until the taste fades away.
It could be that this one atty is a bad one, but first make sure you did everything above. ANd dont feel at all foolish or what have you because we all had the same learning curves when we started.
IF the atty is just not working right, send one of the ladies an email about it, and go through everything you tried - they will either be able to get it fixed by going thru some steps with you or tell you to send it back; they are very good about standing behind their products (even though they dont make the darn things, just sell 'em lol)

I wasnt aware I was supposed to blow the primer out before using it, Im currently blowing the juice out of the atomizer, then dripping two drops onto the bridge and vaping. hopefully doing this a few times will help. I just am starting to get sick of this taste, literally, it's making me sick.

The two Cignot ladies send you a "business card" that goes through the process of "breaking in your attys". I only know this because I recently bought a Joye 510 through them! I actually didn't blow out the primer like I was suppose to, like CaptJay recommends, and I haven't had any problems with my attys. However, I did have a burnt taste when I first started using them, but this was easily managed with a few drops of fluid on the attys.

Let us know if 'dripping' improves the taste at all :)

Alright, so I just dry burned the first atty and dripped, the first few mouth fulls didnt taste bad at all, and was relieved, but then it started getting funky again. I'm guessing getting a tingling feeling in my mouth isn't normal, right? I drip two drops onto the bridge and get two maybe three good mouthfulls that taste like its supposed to, then it goes bad again. Is this to be expected, or should I keep cleaning the atty?

I wouldnt dry burn a brand new atty - just drip, primer puff (no inhale just like a pipe) and the taste SHOULD clear on its own. If you dry burn it too much you could damage the bridge and burn the filaments; dry burning is for older well used atties that have accumulated 'gunk' (sort of caramelzied juice if you will) on the bridge from repeated vapings.

I blow out my attys (atties?) as my first attempt to fix the burnt taste. Some of them are good all day, I have one that's always back to burnt within ten puffs or so; I'm going to try the crest cleaning next. There's a good thread about atty cleaning and testing methods, but when I try and post a link, I am told that I cannot post an off-site link (even though the link is on site). If you google "atty crest cleaning" you should find a few links to pages on these very forums about cleaning various attys through various methods, and the merits thereof. There's even some awesome guy who is collecting gummy attys and testing methods in groups, to provide larger test groups. Bottom line? ECF rules, and I can't wait to post outside of the proverbial kitten jail.

If it is primer I'd think you having done a dry burn, and the associated washing before, should have gotten rid of any leftover primer. Try dripping 2 or 3 drops of e-liquid directly onto the bridge of the atomizer. That should give you a half dozen good puffs. That's assuming you have any eliquid.

If that seems to work then you have the same issue I had with my DSE901 (which is similar in style and size as your 510) when I first got it. The problem was that the wicking material, the fluffy white stuff in the cart, wasn't doing its job too well. So every puff after the first 2 or 3 had me with an atty that really wasn't as wet as it should be giving me that dry, harsh, burnt taste. Almost ruined my vaping experience til I found a mod.

There are plenty of mods (modifications) for cartridges in the mod area of the forum. May I suggest the straw mod as one to try. Its easy, seems to work for many people and doesn't require anything but a tiny straw like a coffee stirrer. It may work for you. Even if it doesn't it should make for better wicking that the standard cartridge. You can try other mods from there its just most require material you most likely won't have around the house. You most likely don't have coffee stirrers either but they can be gotten practically anywhere.
