So I've had my 510 for almost a week, and I've been dealing with the burning taste blaming it on the primer in the atty. Well it's got to be something else. It seems to be only one of the two atty's with the burning problem. There is something actually burning inside the atty, I've done the dry burning until it is totally dry of juice, and something keeps smoking, and it has a horrible burning smell and burns my throat and tastes like smoking a burning piece of plastic. Can someone please help me out?

Yeah. My buddy removed the wick and then the entire bridge out of one of his 510 atties yesterday because he only drips. I just talked to him and he said it's been working out good for him. He said it uses more juice but he gets more flavor. Also, he did this after the atty had already been used for about a week. I guess the wick was a little burnt but it still worked out for him.

Are you taking about the white threads underneath the bridge? If so, can I remove them without destroying the atty?

for future reference (and to any noobs reading this out of curiosity) If you remove those threads that are under your atty, you have now created a DRIP ONLY atty. You need those threads if you want to continue to use a cart and filler with your PV.

Dripping is great if that's your intention, but if not - don't pull out those threads!

I drip - never removed any of the coil or threads yet. Mine work fine.
If its tasting burnt it might be too dry (and I drip til the flavor runs out, mine dont get burned tasting), the bridge needs to be moist always. A dry atty will burn out the coil.
if it always tastes burnt then removing threads MIGHT be an option but Id make sure I wasn't letting hte bridge get too dry first.

Well, I pulled the threads since I only plan to drip anyway. Sure enough, more than half of the threads tips were burnt black. After pulling them out, I still noticed the burning smell, and found two more tiny threads still hanging out in there. After getting those last tiny ones out, the smell is gone, and I'm happier than ever. 4 drops into the atty, and my liquid tastes better than ever. I do have another atty that does not have this burning problem, so I'll leave it alone for now.
