We call those tanks. Cartridges are use on normal atomizers.

Is the new atty an LR tank atty? And if not, is it a different brand tank atty like clone vs real Joye/Janty? (if so could be different ohms) And what thickness juices are you using - what PG/VG? Tanks like PG juices with 30% or less VG, those some 50/50 juices may work.

I do not use tanks. But in general, if the juice doesn't flow as fast as you vape it then you get too-hot atty and can melt things. The lower ohms the atty is, the more important it is that the juice flow well because a low ohms atty run hotter already and will probably vaporize juice more quickly.

And I recommend you go to Liberty-Flight.co.uk and buy some Boge 510 cartomizers (learn on 3 ohm, then you may prefer the hotter 2 ohm ones). In these I use PG juices with 20% or less VG and avoid juices that drop a lot of flavoring sediment. Then at least you will have a backup for vaping if you are having problems with your tanks. You may also want to pick up a non-tank 510 atomizer and 510 drip tip for dripping (good for testing juices and vaping thick juices or occasional ones)
