Burnt flavour in new CE5 clearomizers

Hey people,

I've upgraded from the clearomizer that came with my starter kit to a pair of CE5s for easier cleaning. I noticed they both had a strong burnt flavour, not quite like a dry burn but close. At first I thought it might be down to the higher nic in the new eliquid, but it tastes fine in a cartomiser.

I've since jiggled the wicks around a little with a needle, and found that there were some loose tufts in the wick of of one the clearos. The flavour seems to have improved, though it's weaker.

Is there some kind of standard operating procedure that I'm missing for breaking in a new CE5 and looking after it properly?

What ohms rating is it and what voltage are you using. It's real easy to set your voltage high in that type and burn the juice also is it a short or long wick. If it is a short wick you should leave it on its side when not in use as the wick will get dry standing up. Here is a useful wattage chart for you and an XL spread sheet to calc your wattage.

I find that I can run with a lower wattage on the top feeds.

Did you let the juice sit in them awhile, tip it sideways and twirl it a few times? Clearos need time to wick up.

If you did that and still get a burnt taste you are probably getting dry hits. Every so often tip the clearo and twirl it to keep the wicks wet. There is a breaking in with clearos usually.

I prefer to vape @ ~4V with 2.1 ohm so the standard 3.7 volts should be fine.

Make sure the plastic sleeve is not pinching the wicks. Maybe pull the sleeve up a bit and let screwing in the cap push it down. If you find it is still pinched you can cut a very very small part of the bottom of the sleeve off so it doesn't pinch the wicks.

That might well be it; it seems like the wicks are wet enough, but the wicks are burning anyway. That would explain why needle-jiggling seemed to help with the flavour.

I'll take a look at the sleeve when I refill the other clearo - this one is fine now that I've mucked around with it a bit and some wick material has come away.

Thanks.

Same here (with CE4) - found some reasons: chain vaping (4 takes in 30secs or so), not enough liqued in the tank, dry threads..

I've trimmed the sleeve a little on one of the coils, and that helped, but I am now more prone to flooding. The other head seems to have worked out its kinks after being left to soak in water overnight. If the wicks are cotton, perhaps that helps with the absorptivity. I'm now much happier with my new clearomizers, in any case, and I'll try the water trick next time around.
