Burnt metal taste RANDOMLY!?

I have the Smoke 51 Duo and after posting in this forum, I finally cleaned my carts out correctly, allowed them to dry, and had lots of awesome vaping yesterday with my new Dekang Desert Ship eliquid but something weird happened....suddenly, the flavor turned from a wonderful, sweet, tobacco-ish taste to a burnt metal taste that almost made me throw up. Keep in mind that I had been using this same cart all day, topping it off with eliquid when the vapor began to decrease, so I assumed that it was the cartomizer going bad after all that use, as I do realize they are disposable. No biggie, I thought. I grabbed another and put it on...same taste. Then another...same taste. Suddenly, they ALL taste like this metallicy, burnt metal taste and it's so great, I can't stand to vape and I'm getting really close to just smoking again. My first ecig caught on fire after 2 weeks so I got it replaced a week ago and now this?!? It was working fine ALL day and now I've tried 8 different carts on it, all cleaned and refilled, and they taste terrible. I figured maybe I screwed something up when I was refilling, so I put a brand new Smoke 51 cart on there....still same taste! It has NEVER tasted like this, ever, does anyone know what this could be? Thanks so much for any replies!!!

Is it getting too hot? By this I mean is the BATTERY getting hot (not the carto) cos if it is Id be careful of it - sounds like its producing too much heat for the carto to deal with from what you say - and bearing in mind one caught FIRE.. I don't know much about your model apart from seeing some not-so-great reveiws from people who went onto get other models. If it suits you then thats fine, whatever works, but it doesn't sound like its working very well.
You say it uses cartos so it can't be that the atty isnt getting juice as thats an all in one deal.
That doesn't happen with my JOYE510 lol it can get super hot and no danger of fires; perhaps they are put together differently.
Sorry i cant be a lot of help - free bump at least :)

There could be a number of factors as to why you are getting that metallic taste, you did mention that 1 battery burst into flames. I use cartos on a 5v device with no nasty burnt taste. Doing a quick web search on the smoke 51 kit I've come accross many complaints. It also appears to be a knock-off kr8 type, cheaply made to boot.

If you really want to get to the bottom of your problem, get you a multimeter and check the voltage output from the battery (probably easier said than done being an auto battery,) then set the meter to ohms and check the carto resist (should be around 2.5Ω ball-park)

I'm not sure I understand. Maybe you're using cartridges, or maybe you're using cartomizers. You mentioned that you cleaned your carts out correctly. Do you mean you cleaned your cartomizers? I haven't yet read a recommended procedure for cleaning cartomizers on this forum. If they're really cartomizers, perhaps using one of the methods for cleaning atomizers has caused a problem with your cartomizer. What cleaning procedure did you use?

Honestly, I'm not quite sure what the difference is between cartridges and cartomizers? The ones I've got are the ones that come with a built-in atomizer and are considered disposable but you can refill them several times and then throw them away. Is that a cartridge or a cartomizer? And by the way, what is the difference between PG and VG? I think those were the letters...I see people talking about PG, VG, etc, (correct me if I'm wrong on what they're called) and I can't find a thread about what that means. Thanks so much for all the replies!

what you are describing are cartomizers. VG and PG are the base liquids used in e-liquid (the stuff that creates the smoke and delivers flavor and nicotine). The general idea is that PG delivers more flavor and throat hit, but less smoke. VG will give your more "smoke" and is much smoother in regards to throat hit, but some people report less flavor. A lot of companies will mix both PG and VG to deliver flavor, throat hit, and decent vapor production, however there have been reports of people having slight reactions to either PG or VG, so 100% VG or PG liquids are also produced. In case you are wondering what they stand for, PG stands for Propylene Glycol and VG stands for Vegetable Glycerin. Both are used in food coloring and vg is used in smoke machines (for example at a concert). I wish you the best of luck in quitting cigarettes!

As yomama said, you're using cartomizers, not cartriges + atomizers. Don't worry; you can learn a lot here in a short period of time. Notice the little green line under these letters> VG Hover your curser over those letters and it will tell you what it means. If you see something you don't understand, and it has a little green line under it, you can hover your cursor over it to find out what it means. That really helps with the learning curve.

What procedure did you use to clean your cartomizers? I suspect that cleaning them has caused the problem you're experiencing.

I get this from time to time as well and I have always attributed it to NEEDS MORE JUCE CAP'N! Although, I am a noob like you so I could be missing something here as well. Normally a drip or two takes care of that nasty taste (for me)

Apparently he's using cartomizers, not atomizers, so dripping would not be an option in his case.

I had a very similar experience and I use a 901 which is the cartridge. I vape 555 which is a tobacco flavor. I keep 4 small bottles of flavor (clove, vanilla, chocolate and cherry) and sometimes if the 555 starts to taste flat or burnt I'll drop in a couple of drops of one of those to smooth it out. I've been off cigarettes for almost 6 months and I think my taste buds are changing, healing, coming out of retirement after 40 years.

I also have kept a supply of Commit lozenges to help me through these frustrating times so that at least I won't buy a pack of smokes.

Hope that helps.
