If it only happens when the tank is mostly empty, I would think it means that there is not enough pressure pushing the liquid down to feed the coil. I get the same problem on my protanks when they get mostly empty. Also, I think .8 ohms on a mech is a bit too low for a kayfun. That would be 22 watts. I can usually only go up to 12-15 watts before it starts burning.

That's what I thought (pressure issue). However, when I refill I start to get the burnt taste even with a nearly full tank. This could of course be linked to the wick being burnt by low pressure and then not wicking correctly due to the damaged wick.

I've recently just replaced the O rings after a thorough cleaning and this time I'll make sure to refill the tank before the level drops below the clear section. So far so good. Going from a carto back to the Kayfun nearly knocked my head off - the nicotine hit is so much more intense.

Too much cotton.

Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

This is the strange thing. Everyone has said that. But the day before yesterday I did another build but this time with a slightly larger diameter and a bigger chunk of cotton (1/4 of a cotton ball rolled out as opposed to about 1/6) and I've Vaped all day for two days, gone through about 20ml of eLiquid and it's still Vaping like a champ.

Instead of using small amount of cotton to just get it to thread through with very little resistance, I used a bigger chunk but rolled it slightly so it doesn't bunch up either side of the coil. There was a fair bit of resistance but not much - just slightly more than before. Once I pulled it through I fluffed it up and finished all off and now it vapes wonderfully.

I agree about the Kayfun - it's a fantastic advice. When I've got it to work, it's simply amazing for the first two tanks and then it just goes bad. Today I've stripped it all down and put it to soak in some distilled water and I'm going to clean it and dry it before replacing the O rings (just in case) and doing a build exactly like the one in that video.

I'm not going to give up on it. For now I'm using an XL carto on an eGo-C and a Nautilus on an MVP 2 until the Kayfun has dried and put back onto the nemesis.

I think you hit on something above, "it's a fantastic advice. When I've got it to work, it's simply amazing for the first two tanks and then it just goes bad".

Are you saying it's usually on the third third tank when this starts happening? If so that's normal for some juices. I've got one juice I can only go 1/2 a tank before it gunks up so bad it's burnt and un-vapable then I have others, mostly clear/non sweet liquids I can go weeks on without cleaning.

Try a different juice and see if you get the same results.

I've only just noticed that typo

It could very well have been the juice itself, despite it being quite a high PG blend. The Apple flavouring was quite runny too. I've actually been using some tobacco juice the past few days and have vaped through around six tanks now and it's only just beginning to lose flavour (could be Vapours tongue though - I get that when I try a new flavour).

Like I said, I've also used more cotton than normal this time though. So that could also be a contributing factor.

I'm running a KF 3.1 with a 0.8Ohm coil on a nemesis (18650 Efest battery). At the moment I'm getting a tank of enjoyable Vaping before I get hit by an acrid burnt taste. This happens no matter how much or how little wick I use. I've noticed the wick will stay saturated during this but the coil will be black and the wick seems to look as though the eLiquid has been caramelised.

At the moment I'm using 75/25PG with Capella Apple flavouring, 3.5% distilled water. I haven't really tried any other juices at this resistance so the two main areas of interest for me are: airflow and heat tolerance of the Capella Apple. With the airflow control screw completely removed, I get the same problem. With it all the way in: same problem. As for the eliquid itself, I'm not sure. I'll probably try a few more flavourings and ratios.

It would be easy to see a wicking issue if the wick wasn't so ....... saturated even with the burnt taste. Hmm.

Heat could, of course, be a contributing factor. I am pulling around 17W on average.

Hey brother I got me a russian 91% recently myself, had the same problem and fixed it. Going off your pictures:

-make sure all of your coils are either a) completely not touching or b) completely touching. I'm sure you already know how to get your coil burning from the inside out, BUT I found that sometimes for whatever reason, maybe after threading the cotton through that my coils get all jumbly, and half of the coils aren't touching anymore. Probably because it's more difficult to build on the kayfuns. If your coil has hot-spots your pretty much cooking that cotton.

- make sure to make the wick in the juice well part of the deck "hug" the build wall, in other words get all cotton away from where the juice drains in, I see in the pic there that your cotton is almost blocking the juice canals, the less is always better, but you want some compression of the cotton in your coils. If you leave room for juice to drain in you'll get a nice puddle of goodness going.

-this kinda goes with the first one, but check for shorts, it was really easy for me to touch part of the coils to the + or - posts when adjusting, if you have that first coil touching your gonna get a terrible metallic hit, and you'll be cooking half of your coils.

I hope this helps man, the only other thing I can think of is pulling the coil away from the airflow while it's still on your drill bit, when you have it too close it dries out that one part hovering above (and the coil shouldn't be touching any part of the device other than the posts btw) airflow faster than the rest of the coil, when you give it a good half a centimeter it vapes much more evenly. Other than that just take it easy on the cotton, and tip it every now and then. I barely widened my juice canals (not recommended unless your SUPER careful) and it completely solved my problems, now I prefer to have a crap-ton of cotton because it can actually keep up with my chain vaping.

Try a cheap igo to see if you like dripping, it sounds inconvenient (I use my russian at work and when I'm busy), but it really is a whole'nother satisfying world. Good luck! :D
