Hi all,

I have an Infinite KFL+V2 clone with a 4nine clone using an 18650 VTC5. When I got the KFL, the juice channels were shallow and I was getting dry hits with mostly VG, so I used a diamond burr to deepen them. Now, my juice flows and wicks fine. I've been building 2mm mini coils from 30ga kanthal, coming in around 2 Ohms. Vapor production is good, but not stellar. I was intrigued by some of the coil building tips on here and on YouTube, so I twisted up two strands of the 30ga and tried building a 2mm mini coil out of that. It came out to around 1.3 Ohms. When I did that, my coil was popping and hissing and I got lots of vapor, but my juice tasted terrible. It had a very burnt taste. I also tried a chimney build, and got the same result. I did some more research, and learned that I wasn't letting the coil pre-heat enough. When I started letting the coil heat for a few seconds before taking a drag, the burnt taste was reduced but still there. After less than a tank, I disassembled the KFL, and there were minimal visible signs of charring on my wick (rayon). I built a new 4mm coil out of the 30ga and rewicked, and it's around 2 Ohms, and now it tastes fine. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. All of these people who are going low-ohm or even sub-ohm can't be sucking on burnt tasting juice, can they? I must be missing something obvious, but I can't see what. I'm mostly satisfied with my 2 Ohm build, but I would like to understand what's going on.

Thanks for any help!

P.S. Now my tongue tastes like burning, blech.

The Kayfun isn't really designed for huge clouds or low ohms. I wind mine all around 1.8 - 2.2, 30 gauge on a 2 mm mandrel, rayon wick, and find they work very well.

It could be that your 4nine just doesn't go low enough to not burn at the lower resistances. Try the same build on something that will let you dial the power lower, and see if that helps. And some flavors just can't handle the higher power.
