Hello everyone. This is one of my five first posts.

I didn't want to just be posting random crap so this is my first real issue I figured was somewhat worth posting to get some of your thoughts on.

So my setup I use everyday for past few weeks and pretty much all day long as well when I'm out and about etc is an Innokin Itaste CLK variable voltage. So far it has seemed to be quite decent.

I ended up cracking the tank of the Innokin Clear16 that came with it. So I then got innokins Gladius adjustable airflow tank which seems to be quite similar to the Kanger Aerotank. I really like it. Served me quite well.

So today at the shop I picked up a Vivi nova as well to try something new.

The issue I have been having ever since yesterday night is I am getting a really harsh burnt taste on some draws. As well as the ones after that.

The Gladius has a 2.1 ohm coil, the vivi has a 2.4. But for some reason I can't Vape either of them on anything over 3.8 volts sometimes 4 without getting a harsh putrid burn taste. I don't understand. The vivi nova is brand new. The gladius I have never had an issue with and I even tried another coil with the gladius.

Could something have happened to my battery? I've been taking quite a few consecutive draws since yesterday because I finally started to pick up being able to blow smoke rings so I just keep going at it to practice. But it doesn't make sense why this high of resistance would have issue at such a low voltage.

Thoughts?

Or causes of burnt taste on draw? Maybe there is something dumb I'm doing that I am overlooking... Its just ridiculous to think this battery crapped out on me in 3 weeks if that..

The battery has nothing to do with burnt taste unless the voltage is turned up too high, which it isn't for the resistance of your coils.

Your tanks aren't wicking fast enough for the way you are vaping, is my guess. Try adjusting your draw technique. Concentrate on a slow, gentle, longer draw. Even do some "primer" draws by sucking without any power from the battery.

I'm familiar with the iClear 16, but not the other tanks you have. If a top coil design, you may need to tip or tilt the tank horizontal occassionally as the juice level drops in the tank to keep the top of the wicks wet.

Another possibility is some bad coils. Quality control from China can be hit or miss, even if authentic brand name coil replacements are used. Sorry, but that's the state of the industry with clearomizers and cartomizers. The last time I attempted to setup one of my cartotanks, I had three bad cartos right out of the box in a row. It's frustrating. It makes me glad that I can go back to my Kayfun or rebuildable drippers. If those are screwed up, I have no one but myself to blame, not China.

Hope some of this helped.

I suspect that the problem is you and not your tanks. Vaping requires long smooth draws. If you are taking strong repeated draws you are depleting your atomizer wicks of juice which creates burnt vapes. The wicks in a standard tank are small and with insufficient time to recover the juice you have vaped will "dry out" resulting in burnt vapes. If blowing smoke rings is your goal then I would suggest a dripper (RDA).

it's not a matter of more voltage = better.

you adjust the voltage to get to the sweet spot.

as the coil gets usage more and more it will probably become leaky and you end up cranking up the voltage;
if you chain vape you might be vaping faster than the wick can rewick and you end up with a dry wick and a burnt taste.

once you burn some stuff to blackness on the wick and coil, you'll keep getting some burnt taste until you dryburn the coil

Yeah its probably just the fact I have been overly vaping in too quick of a succession. Really haven't changed my how hard I am inhaling more of how much. And yeah I learned that about voltage as soon as I got it. 3.8 has been my sweet spot with the 2.1 ohm coils but with the vivi being a 2.4 I figured I'd need to turn it up just a bit. And calculating the wattage 4 volts to 2.4 ohms doesn't even come close to my 3.8 at 2.1 so I wanted to get back to that sweet spot but its just burning. I've tried it again since this post.

But I'm gonna slow down. Especially with this vivi being a top wick system. The gladius is a bottom tiny coil head very similar to the protank 2/3 and aerotank. So I'm sire that's the case with the vivi. Let's see if 4 is okay at slowing down.

I think part of the problem was a bum coil on the vivi nova that it had in it already. I checked it out and the coils were all mangled and weird. Idk it was very bad quality. I switched coils out and it seems to be loads better. I'm not having any issues at all no matter if I go over 4 volts or not. Is say 4 is definitely my sweet spot with those. Very flavorful and great throat hit. Should be nice until I get my Ovale eVic Supreme! :)

Ah, good; always good to be able to swap out a coil to check if that is the problem; does not mean the coil is bad;

also, with a top coil, if you are chain vaping, you may need to give it a twirl to wet the top area where the coil is to make sure it isn't dry.

Yeah not sure it was or not but sure seemed like it. I took the nipple and tip off and could see the coil was all bent over diagonally and spaced quite inconsistently. So once I saw that I figured I'd give another one a try and see how it works.

Looking at the smoktech vivi Nova listing on some sites I saw a review saying its great with a simple mod 'snip a mm off the nipple and wet the coil a tiny bit to prime it and won't run into any burnt tastes' idk so maybe this particular one is known to be a bit junky. Shouldn't have bought it really. The gladius is definitely way superior. But at 7$ it definitely wasn't a big lose. And a decent backup for now I suppose.
