burnt taste on new coil everytime?

I have rebuilt my coil several times. Right now I am 1.1 ohms at 17 watts(the voltage is automatic on an istick 50w) and it tastes fine. If I take it up to 20 watts I get a burnt taste after a few hits and it stays that way. If I take it down to 17 watts then it goes away and tastes fine. I have another rta both are Lemo 2's and it is .6 ohms and 20 watts and tastes fine every time. I don't get it. I've been vaping just over a year and this just started happening with one of my tanks. The coil is fine in the one that tastes ok at higher wattage so I have only been replacing the cotton. I roll the coil just like the steam coil calculator says and how I have always done it. The juice is the same in both tanks. The cotton is very lightly packed in the one that tastes burnt. I see videos of people vaping at 60 watts and making huge clouds and they never complain about a burnt taste. I can't get past 20 on my best tank. What is the secret I am missing? There are only two things in play the coil and the cotton. Do I need to roll a lower diameter coil for a longer length or take the ohms up? Do people have special cotton? Any advice would be helpful thanks.
