I have the same problem. NEW authentic coil head at 2.5ohm and protank 2. I am vaping at 4 Volts and i am getting burned taste after a minute with pg/vg 65/35 mix!?!? Flipping the silicone cap didnt work. I still dont know what is the problem... I am gonna remove the silica and use cotton on fresh kanger coil.

Really strange...

Okay, these Mini PTs are driving me nuts.

Now that I'm running no flavor wicks and an upside-down cap, I'm getting flooding like crazy! It's to the point where one of them that I filled last night was completely empty this morning. They're also leaking onto my mods. Sometimes I forget to clean the liquid off of the mods when I switch tanks, and this results in the first draw pulling the previously leaked juice into the current tank, thus ruining the entire tankful of juice. I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong here. The juice I'm using in them is 50/50 vg/pg from MBV.

I'm planning on rebuilding these Kanger coils with 32 ga Kanthal and Pn'C yarn. Maybe that will solve my dilemma. I'm at my wits end with these, and I have a third one coming in the mail this weekend! AARRRGGGHHH!

When I started out with my ProTanks (II and a mini), I found the stock coils are very easy to burn, you can go from 3.7 to 3.8 and start getting the burned taste immediately. Rebuilding the heads myself with cotton and new coils have made them less prone to this, but i still find myself looking for the sweet spot on on the dial with them with various flavors. Once you find the spot, they're excellent.

I don't flip the gasket, I just use a twist of boiled cotton, and trim it just past the collar on the head. Once I started doing that, I stopped any flooding and gurgling.

Try the cotton, and turn down the power. The sweet spot for me is around 3.7-3.9, I generally start getting a burned taste around 4.0.

Also, if you're chain vaping, and the coil gets too hot, the grommet on the bottom of the head starts to burn - that means you need to crank down the power, too.

I know the difference of burned rubber grommet and burned silica-glowing wire-hotspot. ;) Grommet usually dont burn with authentic kanger coils cause they have nr-r-nr wires. I rebuild my coils only with resistance kanthal so after few rebuildings the grommet isnt good anymore.

In this case of new burned coil heads is something different going on. I think its too thin silica and wire glows and makes bad burned taste.

After i removed "new" silica 15 minutes ago, which isnt burned at all !??! i replaced it with cotton and there are no burn hits anymore.

Do you mean cotton for a flavor wick or do you mean pulling the silica wick out of the coil itself and somehow replacing it with cotton? It it's the latter, how do you do that?

Yes, just pull it out, carefully. If it's really gunked up, you might need to put a drop of vodka or juice on it to loosen it up. Just be careful not to budge the coils, and knock them around - if they touch the sides, it'll short.

Then, dry burn the coils, and then either thread enough yarn to fill the coil, and then clip just past the collar (I've seen people on Youtube make a needle to pull it through with wire), or roll some boiled cotton into a cord, and thread through (it will expand once primed).

There's a lot of YouTube videos that walk you through it, with all the "gotcha!"s covered.

Protank Wick Rebuild with Cotton - YouTube

I use boiled sterile cotton balls from CVS, others use yarn, like the video.

It's not hard, and it's a great upgrade, it's a lot better for draw and flavor.

I meant replacing silica with cotton. For flavor wick i use half of 2mm silica, which i still have and it was meant for protank heads at first. Cotton is much better and cheaper, but i lasts a lot less. I recoil/replace stuff in head every week or even more often, it depends on how much i vape with that particular atomizer. 6-10 mls and its time :)

It aint the cotton or silica problem but juice is burned on the wire after every drag and soon the black nasty burned stuff rubs into silica/mesh/cotton and the taste gets bad.

I am having the same issue with my brand new mini. It also leaked all of my juice out over night. Went by the shop I bought it at, they replaced the head (they also told me that minis are prone to leaking if left too long) and it worked fine for a few hours. Then the taste came back. I vape a puff or two at a time pretty much all day so I am thinking its too much for the mini to handle. I am definitely not about to try to rebuild the stupid thing since I have the mechanical aptitude of a rock so...the mini goes in the junk drawer and I go back to my EVOD tanks. I only bought 1 mini so I no real money wasted but I'm still pretty miffed.
