I've had my igo-L for about a month. Its working fantastically. However, i seem to be having to replace my coils due to lack of performace or a crazy bad burnt taste(even when soaked with juice) after a few days. They also get this black-ish coating on the coil after a few days.. I havent had a coil last more than 4 days without either of these issues.

I'm using 28G Kanthal and 3mm EKO wool. My coils have been about .8 ohms when using it with my mechanical mod at 3.7v, and anywhere from 1.3-2.5 ohms when using it on my VV/VW mods. I'm pretty sure i'm using them at the right voltages, i just can't seem to figure out why they don't last very long.

Any help is MUCH appreciated. Thank you!

edit: Also, when i build my coils, can the wire that is attached to the positive and negative posts be super short, basically hugging the posts as close as possible? I figured any part of the coil that touches the post besides the end wires is bad..but i could be wrong. advice on that?

Using Kanthal and ekowool, you can dry burn the heck out of it without burning the wick or coil. The build up on the coil and wick are likely burnt juice flavorings. If you have a small torch you can also just burn all the crud off the coil and wick 'till it's as clean and white as when you first made it.

Smaller legs are a good thing so long as the coil isn't close enough to short out, that could cause your resistance to change drastically from just moving your mod around. Very not good in a mech, where you can't recheck the resistance.

You got good advice from Stosh already. Just wanted to add a few more thoughts.

IMO, it's not the coil, rather the wick that is giving you issues. Clean that regularly before it gets too gunked up and I suspect you will have a much better experience.

I use micro coils and cotton wicks in my IGO-L. With 27 gauge Kanthal and about 10 coil wraps on a 1/16" diameter pin I get around 1 ohm resistance. This puts out a comparable vape to my 0.6 ohm genny. Super_X_drifter has a great video on building micro coils here. Do it the way he does and you will be vaping happy. Just leave the wick tails a bit longer than he does because you are not using a Reo bottom feeder. I leave mine about 1/2 inch each end. And if you use too much cotton in the coil, it will choke the flow of juice. I've been using the same coil for a couple of months now, just replacing the cotton every couple of days.
