I have an atty that works real good but has a bad burnt flavor to it is there anything I can do or is my atty bad? Thanks
The bad taste in an atty has a few sources:
1. Primer/shipping fluid - this is not as bad as it used to be but it still occurs - you have to blow out the shipping fluid that is used to keep atomizers wet - a dry atomizer can die - so they put some form of PG on the atomizer when made and stored. Blow it out from both ends and try it. If still bad you could soak in the highest clear PGA (vodka) you have for about 15 minutes - blow that out and restart. You shouldn't do more than that. It eventually will be gone even if you do nothing.
2. Bad
ejuice - try it in another atty you know is good - if it tastes bad, then it's the
ejuice.
3. Dry atomizer. Sometimes this will take your breath away -and you shouldn't continue to 'check' - drag, when you're getting that taste. The atomizer needs
ejuice now or you'll burn it out - same with a cartomizer. In fact, don't wait until you get this taste. It will be preceded by a loss of flavor so at the first sign of a loss of flavor, refill, top off or drip.
That last said, there are certain engineering of atomizers that, imo, tend to produce the 'dry, nasty, taste' more than others. Some atomizers have a base of metal mesh around the bridge which is also covered with metal mesh and that mesh tends to hold ejuice and prevent the drying of the coil which causes the taste. Joye atomizers have the most metal mesh. Others have
some metal mesh at the base which can be seen around the ceramic pot. Others still, have no metal mesh at the base but have a 'washer' - silver looking metal around the base of the bridge.
The last two, in my experience, tend to go dry quicker and can produce the nasty taste. Some of the washer types I have never really get rid of the taste unless you're doing a lot of direct dripping to soak the coil. Even good cart modifications can't keep the atty wet enough to do away with the taste. I use them for dripping only and haven't bought any in a while.
There's one other cause - the build up of gunk in and around the coil itself and this can produce the 'burnt' taste too. I soak the atomizer in 151 vodka for 15minutes to a half hour tops - otherwise you can get the internal wicking bunched up and that's not good. Blow out after the soak, put a few drops on the bridge and huff the ecig a bit - like keeping fire on a pipe or cigar, not inhaling to restart it and then vape as normal.
