Those are great pictures Richard, thanks for sharing. I love those big gentle furry bumblebees. Give them a bunch of purple flowers and they could care less if you are right in the middle of them.

I also enjoyed those panoramic pictures that you posted in the lounge sometime back ... absolutely stunning!

Thank you everyone! :) The Bumble Bees are quite docile when they have so much Lavander to help them gather pollen on. :) The Lavander was in a narrow garden that bordered a nicely mowed lawn, so I just slowly moved along taking photos. I had the lens just inches away from the gentle little giants and they paid me no mind. :)
I am mildly allergic to Bee stings, so I am Very careful around them. The ones that really bother me and I avoid at all costs is the Bald Faced Hornets and the Yellow Jackets! They are just Plain Mean and Nasty! Plus, they can keep stinging and stinging and stinging!

Even with a macro lens I can't figure out how you got that close without disturbing the bee. Exceptionally beautiful pictures!

As long as they are honey bees (and not killer bees) they are pretty hard to "disturb". My sisters and I used to catch them when we were younger. We never got stung. We would catch several on one patch of clovers. They don't commuinicate to each other when they are busy working.

If I were allergic, I never would have reached the age of ten after the time i stepped in a yellow jacket nest and got stuck... People who make fun of me for freaking out around them have NO idea lol. Bumble bees really are so sweet though, aren't they? Are those bumble bees though? They look like honey bees that close up

KrisBKream sir not when one stings you when you're one and you end being rushed to the hospital because you've doubled in size and your throat starts closing up 8 minutes later....

Good heavens! I just pictured that happening to my daughter and got a little nauseous from the imagined fear. Sheesh. Well enjoy the beautiful pictures and stay inside lol

I stepped on a yellow jacket nest in Spokane once....I got stung 26 times. They told me I was allergic...but it was just the amount of stings....

Beautiful pics of the honey bees...they are wonderful creatures! But you can keep the yellow jackets :D
