I just ordered a Vision Spinner from ebay, and I've been having a hard time deciding which tank to get. I have to say I'm new to vaping but I'm pretty sure I'll be doing this for a lot of time so I decided to get some medium range stuff.

I was thinking about a 3.5ml Vivi Nova V5 tank or a Protank 2.

What really concerns me is the fact that I'll have to keep changing the head coils on any of those tanks, and I don't know how much time they last until they really need to be replaced. I found a seller on ebay that sells six regular vivi nova tanks for about 25 USD and another who sells just one, nice looking 3.5ml vivi nova V5 tank for about 9 bucks (That comes with three head coils).

I'm leaning towards the second option right now since I don't know how much time will the heads last until I need to replace them or the things I have to do to keep everything working okay. I was reading some posts on this forum and someone said that you need to know the ohms on the coils and the voltage on your batery so that you don't burn the coils too fast or get a burnt taste from the liquid... I really need someone to give me a basic explanation about all this stuff and give me their opinion about which tank will fit the best for my Vision Sipnner.

well the replaceable heads life span depends on how much you use it and what sort of e-liquid your using. tobacco flavors and thick e-liquids will clog up a coil faster than say a thin fruity e-liquid...

as for the amount of power, start at the lowest setting and slowly increase until the vapor starts to feel a bit warm in your mouth / throat. then turn it down a bit. once you burn the e-liquid into the wick and coil the nasty taste will not go away with out some serious effort.

a vivi nova is not a bad starting point. the protanks are hit and miss.
you could also look at cartomizer tanks, if you decide to go with the cartomizer tank. try to get decent replacement cartomizers like "Boge Brand".

To figure out the right volts use the following chart. Find ohms on the head and then a safe volt based on that. http://www.newthinktank.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Vaping-Power-Chart.png

As per the right tank vivi novas, kangers and other commercial throw away tanks are made to break. Id learn how to roll a coil on YouTube and get something like a taifun gt on fast tech. The flavor is better. They are also cheaper. Rolling a coil is easy after an hour of practicing.

I don't have any Vivi Nova's but I would think the heads would last the same amount of time as the Protank 2 heads. My Protank 2 heads last anywhere between one day and two weeks depending on the juice I use. Dark, sweet juices gunk up the coils fairly quickly. There are things you can do to prolong their use, like soaking in alcohol and dry burning but it's not the same as using a new coil.

I plan on doing my own e-liquids with Vegetable Gliceryn and some fruit flavoring, what do you think about doing that? Will my heads last longer that way?

Also let's say I smoke about one hour a day, will the coils last long?

Before you do any DIY e-liquid make sure you check out the forums. Some flavorings may be safe to consume but dangerous to vape.

More VG creates more build up on the coils. I'm a chain vaper using high VG e-liquid and I get two weeks before they start going bad then I dry burn and I'm good to go for another two weeks.

Check out youtube on how to dry burn your wicks, they will last much longer.

I can get three to four months of use out of a head. Be careful not to pulse for too long a time or you can burn out resistance wire but since you need to replace it anyway so what if you do.

When the head has reached the end of its useful life I recoil them using 32 gauge resistance wire and Sugar N Cream 100% cotton yarn. You can also use Peaches N Cream or sterile cotton balls. Lots of videos on youtube showing how to recoil protank and vivi nova heads.

Edit: You can't dry burn with cotton wicks but you can pull out the wick, dry burn the bare coil then insert a new piece of cotton.

Good luck and vape on.

I was able to squeeze several weeks from a Nova head, before I switched to ProTanks. I did rotate between 5 different tanks during the day, however. If I were to use just one tank all day I would expect to get about 2 weeks of use from a head. But it all depends on your juice, voltage, etc. as mentioned previously.

For reference, I use 50/50 juices and most are fruit flavors. I prefer to vape at about 3.6 - 3.8V on a 2.4 ohm head.

The tank you want will depend on a few things. How much eliquid you want to carry, for one. The small tanks hold less than 2 mls, which could be troublesome if you are out and about. Also, the size...a large tank may look strange on a pen battery (possibly even strain the connection if it were to bend in a pocket or something?).

After that, you have plenty of choices, top/bottom coil - RBA vs atomizers. A rebuild is actually really simple on something like a protank. Two youtube videos and you'll be a pro with some practice. It takes 5 minutes to recoil my protank 2 mini. One thing, though. You might want to buy pre-cut wire in the beginning. Fasttech has pre-cut nichrome wire set to different resistances. This way, you don't have to measure your coils or anything. Just wrap the middle section around a decent wick and you are good to go. And burn the bad taste off before vaping. The wire tastes weird before breaking in. They take forever for delivery though. Forever.....

If you want a larger tank, you might want to go with a Genesis style RBA. Easier to recoil because there is no atomizer tube, just a large tray with a wick that leads into a tube. I hear Genesis style RBA's go very well with something called "auto-dripping" (youtube it). I just ordered one and am looking forward to it.

DIY juice is easy if you don't spill anything. and if a vape store sells it, it is probably ok to vape. Just get the proportions right. Plenty of calculators that will tell you how much to use of what - Enter your raw materials, enter the quantity you want to end up with, and it will tell you the proportions.

A coil should last a week or two. If it starts to taste burnt, then you can dry burn it (youtube or google) burning off any charred juice, then flush it out, let it dry or dry burn the water off, and you are good to go again. Or, just change out a coil, coz once u know how, it is really simple. ten minutes of education and willingness to make mistakes will make you a pro.

I have an eGo with a Protank 2 mini//Aspire. They each hold 1.8 ml, and with casual vaping, it's done by day's end. Some stressful days, it runs low so I have to refill from a small bottle in my bag.

I have had to drill out an airhole on each of them, coz I felt it was a bit tight and uncomfortable to draw from them. With a quick careful drilling, the airflow is so smooth and effortless.

On the Aspire, I had to drill out a hole in the atomizer so the juice got to the wicks a little quicker. It was dry and flavorless sometimes.

I tell you this so you know that sometimes, it doesn't come out perfect, but with some effort and education, you can make it better.

Ordered some new stuff, so this beginner setup might go away soon, but always good to have some decent backups to fall back to, in case of emergency. Don't wanna get any cigarettes!!!!

Congrats. Hope this helps. Feel free to pm any questions about my experience so far. I'm not far ahead of you. About 2 months in, but a lot of videos and forum reading. This place is great. Google any question on vaping, and it probably comes back here. :)

For what it's worth, I like simple. I have 4 Kanger Evods (bottom coil tanks) a pro2 and mini pro2 and they all use the same coil. These coils can be used in many bottom coil tanks. I have a HyperTank and a couple other aftermarket bottom coil tanks I use them in. But a bit of a heads up... always buy "authentic" KangerTech coils. I usually keep my ohm's around a 1.8-2.2, use all kinds of e-liquids and generally get a couple weeks use out of a coil. I buy them in bulk on ebay for a little over a buck each. I have several other kinds of tanks as well (including a vivi nova) but I like the variety of tanks that use the bottom coils. Vape on!

Wow, I'm surprised with all the people commenting here. I can't answer to everyone but I want to let you know I read all of the comments and I'm really doing some research on what you guys are telling me. Also, I decided to go for the Vivi nova V5 after all because it was the best deal considering that I live in Mexico and shipping prices were absolutely insane; around 25-30 bucks for a tank thats worth around 10, and the shipping price of this one (plus a beauty ring to make the tank look a little nice with the Vision Spinner) was about 10 USD. Everything arrives in about 15 days and I'm actually excited about it, I'm going to prepare some e-liquids before they get here haha.

I'm really considering to start a new thread asking about doing your own nicotine free e-liquid because I have plenty of questions...
