I'm an avid ebay "tire-kicker" and purchaser. Really, it's like anything else - buyer beware. You just have to read the ratings. About the only difference I've found on ebay vs. an online vendor is:

1.) Price might be the same but shipping is usually free with no minimum order
2.) You can usually get bulk items much cheaper (Coil heads, clearomizers, Kanthal, Silica, etc.)

I have a few favorite e-bay suppliers now.

I too have been buying/selling on eBay for awhile, but I just recently made my first purchase of vaping supplies, and I didn't have a single issue. Basically it is the same as with buying anything else, the only difference is there are a lot of vaping related items that have been cloned. However all you have to do is check the sellers feedback to make sure they've had no complaints, and if you are at all like me, then you already do that with everything you purchase on eBay.

By the way, here are the eBay sellers I recently purchased from:

1. 2 Protank II's and a 5 pack of 2.2Ω PT2 replacement coils from vapingtown2013 - I've heard nothing but good things about this seller from fellow ECF members.
2. 2 AW IMR 18490's from wholevapemarket - I looked into their past sales and they had great feedback on the AW IMR's
3. 30g/32g Kanthal & 1mm/2mm Ekowool from lightningvapes - Once again I heard plenty of good things about this seller
4. 5 pack of 2.2Ω Kanger T2 coils from froghairvapor - He has 100% feedback and over 1900 feedback ratings, I didn't bother looking any further.

EDIT - All of these items were around 10% cheaper than anywhere else, and that's not taking into account the shipping costs of other sites.

I got fake AW batteries on eBay from a vendor who had had good reviews and no comments about them selling counterfeits. They sent me the wrong size and I got a refund because of that before I researched them and realized the were fake so I didn't contact the seller about it. I did note it in my feedback though. I'd be very careful ordering batteries or anything else that could be dangerous if it failed (e.g., chargers) from eBay.

I just got an MVP 2.0 Shine which I won in an auction for $32.48. Retail at my local B&M which I paid for the pink one this one I got off of eBay was green was $89.99. So somethings you can get cheaper and with free shipping which I got it is worth it, I got 45 Vivi Nova tanks for $40.99. That is less than $1.00 a tank. Granted they came from China but they came with a certificate of authenticity and free shipping, I waited 20 days for them but all in all it was worth the wait! I got 8 8ml tanks for 24.99 from China Vivi Novas again, and didn't have to pay shipping and here this last month I got a bunch of drip tips for super cheap. I think sometimes it is cheaper because you get free shipping with no minimum order on eBay compared to vendors, just my honest opinion!

I've bought Genuine KangerTech Coils (2.5ohm) there for $5.49 w/free ship, these were much better than the ones in the white box with a "Kanger" sticker (1.8ohm) & pre-priced $8. The latter were leaky & causing flooding, also caused all of my devices to run hot.

The genuine brand has had no leaks/floods so far & has ran much cooler, devices were barely warm to the touch. After success with the 1st box of 5, bought another.

Bought a multimeter that's supposed to arrive Friday at latest, for $7 shipped, to keep an eye on my IMR batteries. Local B&M stores wanted $16 & up.

Tonight just bought 2 more items that will save me a fortune on wicks, both Free Shipping.

1) 6 feet of 2mm High Quality Ekowool Braided Silica Wick ($8.94)
2) 100 foot roll of 32 gauge Kanthal A1 Wire ($4.68)

I've been an eBay member since February 2009, most of which were computer related accessories. There's been a couple of times that I got burned, but as other has noted, PayPal covered by back. Overall, I've had an excellent experience there.

The key is in not only feedback from customers, but researching what's being purchased. Feedback is good, but the one thing with that is the buyers are leaving either 1 star or 5 stars or are neutral. Many times, the customer leaves good feedback too soon (I've done this & learned from it). Oddly ,when I left negative feedback for a seller, I've been given the chance to retract it.

However, buyers doesn't have that chance on their own, what may look like a sweet purchase at first, may end up being a sour grape later. That's why the buyer should have some knowledge of what they're considering purchasing. My personal distributor showed me today how to rebuild or re-wick my own coils, which is why I bought the wire & wick. I'll need to grab a torch tomorrow to heat these up with.

Yes, one can save money on eBay, just shipping charges alone. But there's too many deals that are just too good to be true. Some are counterfeit items & there's tons of second rate merchandise out there. IMR batteries for example. One seller had a package of 2 AW IMR 18490 1100mah batteries for what most sites charges for one, plus free ship. Beware.

Kanger Pro Tanks, some sellers will show several pics of the real deal, but there'll be one picture that states "this is the item you'll receive". It won't have the KangerTech brand etched on it. See, this is how they get sellers, many doesn't pay attention to fine details.

Also, lots of eBay sellers says Genuine, but spells it "Geniuine" & there are other fine print misspellings in the description. By this, the seller didn't legally state "Genuine". It's up to you. the customer to figure these things out.

Like anywhere else, if the deal is way too good to be true, it usually is. And this isn't meant to be a bash of eBay, there are many honest sellers on the site whom works hard for their feedback. But there's fly by nights also.

I'm not certain how PayPal protection works when someone makes a e-cig or vaping related claim, but I've read that they aren't helpful when someone says "my tank is leaking & e-juice is getting in my mouth", or similar claims. eBay sellers prominently posts that their products aren't related to vaping, doesn't contain nicotine or tobacco, some will state they're for "aromatherapy".

Something that we all may need to research before firing off a claim.

That probably wasn't the vendors fault. A whole lot of vendors bought bulk batteries that claimed to be AW batteries through Alibaba. Problem is, AW doesn't sell batteries to or through Alibaba.

As for myself, I've bought a lot of things via Ebay over the years including vaping supplies. Check the vendor feedback and look for the Ebay Guarantee on the page, and if they have it you can be secure in your purchase.
