Hi folks!
Just thought I'd drop on in and introduce myself, and 'tell my story', as it were...
Been smoking analog since age 14 (1978 seems like SUCH a long time ago!) and trying to quit for a long time now. My wife and I tried the xyban, worked to a degree (I went from near 3 PAD to 3 smokes a day) but work and home stress killed that off quickly for both of us. Had brief stints with gums, patches, etc..
My wife was finally able to quit near 2 years ago, but I didn't have that luck... met a woman where I work, that was using a Vapor4Life e-cig, and after talking with her about it, and trying hers... I ordered one of the starter kits (my wife, the CFO flipped a bit over the $96 price tag, but I reminded her that this would be the same as going to the reservation twice for my analogs). Put the order in on Thursday and the kit arrived on Saturday (GREAT customer service from them!) which coincidentally was the day I usually make my run to the res...
I had my last analog that Saturday and switched to vaping as soon as my last tobacco cig was gone... Happily I have been smoke free since! seen my blood-pressure drop, and I'm not hitting a wall walking up stairs now - it sounds trite, but I think vaping may have saved my life...
and now I find that 'they' are trying to BAN these things?! Figures... something that can do GOOD for some, and ppl want to kill it! Sheesh...

anyway... enuff of THAT rant...
Hi folks! ;-)

Welcome Nitemist, you will find a whole heap of support here. Just ask a question and people will climb over each other to answer.

I had my last analogue back on May 3 2010 and my brand of cigarette then cost $18/25pack. I used to go through 1.5 packs per day ($27/day). I now mix my own juices (DIY) and it costs me approx $3/week. I'm golden in my wife's eyes!!!

Welcome Nitemist. I'm new too...this is my 5th day. I have to say, I feel so much better and I can breath better too!

I've noticed that some ppl have trouble putting down their analogs...
morbid curiosity makes me wonder why? I know... it's 'just me' and everyone is different, but for most folks the nicotine is all that keeps them on cigs... if you GET nicotine from an e-cig... doesn't that fill the need? when I tried quitting, there were 2 things I was working against... 1) the HABIT (maybe ritual would be a better word) of the hand to mouth motions and 2) the actual nicotine addiction. E-cigs take care of both of them (I would think) or is there some other factor I'm missing?

NY has some RIDICULOUSLY high cig prices (and that is one of the reasons I fear the whole concept of 'regulating e-cigs as tobacco products' mindset!), the state SAYS they want ppl to quit smoking, but then... what will they do to us to replace the lost TAX REVENUE that they GET from smokers? and you KNOW they'll be looking for ANY excuse to hand for that!

Cigarettes contain Harmala alkaloids, they effect some people far more than others. Those that it does affect makes quitting much harder with just nicotine, but it can still be done, possibly with more nicotine than normal. Harmala alkaloids in tobacco work as an antidepressant the same way nicotine does. So for some people Nicotine replacement and the simulation of smoking isn't quite enough to quit immediately, but tapering off analogs slowly does seem to work for a lot of people.

Oh ! So that explains everything CBB !
I easily switched from analogs to e cigs a year and a half ago. It is really a hand to mouth kind of thing for me.
My friend actually quit analogs cold turkey for about 6 months and then started smoking again. I got him to try e cigs for a little while. I even got him a Provape 1 with a 510 atty. At first, he really liked it. After a couple of months he then went back to smoking analogs. He said e cigs are just not the same as a real cig. I am trying to figure out what he is missing LOL !
Don't know how else to help him. Maybe the nic level was low for him. He started out at 11mg.
Analogs really stink and my nose gets all stuffed up even when he enters a room ! I am probably allergic to some chemical they put in analogs. Honestly, I can't stand the smell of cigarettes anymore. Anyone have suggestions to help him switch ?

If it were that simple, then the pill/gum/lozenge/inhaler should have worked for everyone by now and we could just outlaw tobacco and issue those things at the border. It's not that simple. The fact is there's more than one facet to the addiction. Even with e-cigs, it's not effortless. It's as effortless as anything I've found though. First, there are the other 3996 or so chemicals we used to inhale that we no longer do. Furthermore a cigarette gets the nic into your bloodstream in a hurry. That rush part of the addiction too for some people. PVs do a fair job of that but, not like a cigarette. It's not a one size fits all thing.
