Never got a straight forward answer from the company, so, I complete stopped using their flavorings.

What I did get, however, was a bleak response indicating that those flavors that have butter-like properties, or sound as if they would have butter (bakery) most likely contain diacetyl.

Many people here have no issue inhaling the stuff. Some might contrast the notion that we came from smoking cigarettes, and nothing short of putting a pistol in the mouth, and firing will be as bad as that.

Me? I prefer not to destroy my lungs, if feasible. If diacetyl adds risk, I prefer to sway away. That's just me though.

Some good info in this link. Which One Is Right/Wrong?? Acetoin/Diacetyl

Also be sure and read the post right under from IcomeNpeace.

I think the folks that feel the amounts we get are too small to worry about may have a good point, but why risk it.

On the other hand, I use acetyl pyrazine for it's slightly nutty, bready taste. Hopefully, it's not bad to use. It's not the same and doesn't taste the same, but to my buds at least, it's in the bready camp.

It irritates me that capella won't answer questions about acetoin/diacetyl. I've contacted them twice regarding this, they just don't answer. Their customer service doesn't reply at all when you ask them questions regarding this subject. That's very bad I think.

This is off Capella's front page...
"Our Flavors are Food Grade Flavorings , and are DIACETYL FREE."

Acetoin is a whole nother world which is probably impossible to escape without destroying some flavorings. I would bet all vendors have flavors containing trace amounts of acetoin. I don't like it, but I have traded inhaling thousands of chemicals for a handful so I am not too terribly upset. Not much consolation but it is probably less harmful than half the stuff we eat today.

Can't really blame the vendors too much. After all, very few are actually making the flavorings. It's the major suppliers they buy from that don't report everything they should.

These are just my opinions only and I have no hard evidence to prove anything one way or the other. So take it or leave it.

^^^^ This

I think the butter is the only questionable one from Capella.

None of them is questionable:

Coffee Flavorings | Soda Stream Flavors | Natural Flavorings

A quote from the link: 'Do any of your flavorings contain Diacetyl?'
'We do not use Diacetyl in ANY of our flavorings.
Even though Diacetyl is on the FDA approved GRAS list for flavoring manufacturers, there are other compounds available to mimic a buttery/creamy taste.'

I've wanted to use Capella's Butter, but I "assumed" it had diacetyl. I appreciate the confirmation that it does NOT. Now I'm in the mood to vape some proper cinnamon streusel, yeah!

That's great that I helped. Capella, in my opinion, are one of the best flavouring companies. They contain no sweeteners either.

IT could be FDA approved but that's for eating... which of course wont cause any harm. But inhaling Diacetyl is another ball game.

in other words.. Being FDA approved doesn't mean much to me.
