CASAA has just released its 2013 Electronic Cigarette Consumer Survey!

You may recall that CASAA did an informal survey in 2010 that has been put to great use over the years. This updated survey has been designed by professional researchers to help us better understand the demographics and preferences of electronic cigarette consumers. This valuable information will help us answer questions from legislators, the media and government officials such as age, dual use, non-tobacco flavors, smoking cessation, health effects, devices, nicotine strengths and more.

We will use this information to help us answer questions on e-cigarette use during CASAA's meeting with the FDA on August 26th, 2013, as well as for other purposes (so if you are seeing this after that date, please still go ahead and complete the survey). In order to have this information in time for the FDA meeting, we need as many completed submissions as possible within the next day or two. So, please do not delay! The survey is mostly multiple choice and takes less than 10 minutes. Please be sure to also share this blog post or the link with other electronic cigarette consumers.

Note: This survey is separate from and in addition to the "Testimonial Survey" recently done by CASAA.

Went to do the survey but quit at this question since I couldn't answer it truthfully given the options available.

How did e-cigarette use affect your smoking? (indicate which one best describes you)

I never smoked again after I first tried an e-cigarette
I quit smoking within a week of first trying an e-cigarette
I used both e-cigarettes and cigarettes for more than a week, but I quit smoking within a month
I used both e-cigarettes and cigarettes for over a month, but quit smoking within 3 months
I used both e-cigarettes and cigarettes for more than 3 months, but eventually quit smoking
I still smoke, but a lot less than before I used e-cigarettes
I still smoke as much or almost as much as I did before using e-cigarettes
I had already quit smoking before I first started using e-cigarettes
I smoke more now than I used to
N/A, I was never a smoker and still am not

My situation - tried disposables for a couple of weeks in May 2012. Lasted a couple of weeks, went back to smoking. Found ECF which led me to better equipment/juice in May 2013. Tried my first ego/clearo and haven't had a cigarette since. So none of these answers apply and there's no place to write in an answer.

I had the same issue as Barbara21. I tried cigalikes a year and a half ago, but found them to be worse than smoking, so on that question, I answered honestly with 1 year and 6 months. Then I came across the question that Barbara21 had, above. Since I only first tried the cigalikes for a day, I just treated this question like I had never had an e-cig before 6 months ago, and answered with number 1, which was true. After I got my eGo put together and tried my first puff, I never looked back at cigs again.

Bump for da survey!

I like surveys - you never know what you are gonna get. This is a good one.

CASAA is also providing an easy link in the survey for you to become a CASAA member. There is a point to showing big membership numbers - DO IT!!! It's easy and it doesn't cost anything to join.

Lastly, I would like to remind people this is your chance to be heard on a personal level. Having the "powers that be" actually hear from you is important. In big numbers. Please tell your story here: E-cigarettes and other Tobacco Harm Reduction strategies: a collection of success stories - 0%

Would that not be "I used both e-cigarettes and cigarettes for more than 3 months, but eventually quit smoking"

I do believe you are over thinking the question. You did use both for over 3 months before you eventually quit. The point being if it wasn't the first option then how long did you use both before you completely quit. The question isn't asking about a blow by blow synopsis.

It wouldn't be the first time. :)

I see your point. But that implies that I both smoked and vaped for a period of time (3+ months) before I switched entirely to vaping.

If disposable e-cigs had been my only option, I never would have quit. But when I tried better equipment, I quit smoking that same day.

I really believe that FDA/Big Tobacco is going to try and restrict people to pre-filled/sealed, limited-flavor cig-a-likes. I just wish there were some way to make the distinction that I quit using 'real' e-cigs as opposed to cig-a-likes.

Aw, heck with it. I'll just pretend I never tried the cig-a-likes and go from there.

Off to fill out the survey...

Kristin, how are the responses coming? Are you getting a good turnout?

We've slowed down a bit, but we have over 3,300 completed so far (about 300 incomplete)

It wouldn't be the first time. :)

Hi Barbara,

The question says "(indicate which one best describes you) ", so just choose one that is closest to what happened to you. Later in the survey there are questions that will allow you to specify that the disposable e-cigarettes were not working and that is why you went back to smoking. :)
