I have recently seen a usb based solar charger on sites like DealExtreme and such.

I've not tried one so don't know how well they might work or how long it would take to charge batts but if you try one....let us all know.

There is also a butane based vaping unit (like the butane based hair curling iron) that does work with juice.

Ninja, when I camp like this every square inch must be accounted for since it is pack in and pack out! I kinda like the idea about that little jobbie from Amazon. I don't like them (2 reasons, one, I used to work for them o_O and two, they ban books from listing) but I may order that! JerriB, I will do a full review. I am in Seattle so it may not get used until spring though!

ETA: I may get one before then just to try it out! After we stock up on juice...

Honestly? I would get a 6 volt gel cell - rig yourself up a female USB with alligator clips and take a USB passthrough.

I did this just last weekend, and have been vaping on it all week to see how long it will last before I post the results just for fun. It still is not dead and vaping strong.

Just stop by any local batteries plus or radidilio smack or whatever, find one good for several AH - mine is 11 - make sure it's not gonna be TOO much extra weight for you - and head for the hills. They will be more than happy to give it a full charge for you too, so you should be able to forego the cost of a charging unit if you want until later. They aren't that bad though - 20 bucks will get you a good trickle charger.

So far this is day 8 - still working like a champ on 6 volt, 11Ah sealed battery, using a home-made battery box mod with cartomizers. I did put a resistor pack on mine to drop it down to 3.8 volts - I'm unsure about 6 volts on cartomizers so that part is up to you if you're a high voltage man or not.

Take care,
- Hap

Well, I liked that thread but it still doesn't address my concern. And, I am not a high voltage gal but I tried a passthrough and (gods help me I am about to be yelled at by a few) I don't like or can stand to be tethered! Even when I am writing (my primary paycheck) I can't stay here, I am up and about..I mean, who is going to fix my bloody mary's for me? lol, no, seriously. I pack a tent, food, pans, the whole nine, yano? I even go plastic bottled booze because of weight. I keep looking at that bugger on Amazon and I really think that will be the next purchase for vaping after we stock up...HEY DAWN! I am about ready to stock up! ;)

That's cool I can understand that. I hope fair weather holds for you while you're out and about so the charger works. You wtill might consider taking a 12v sealed battery (or even one of those power packs they sell nowadays w/ usb ports already inside them that are supposed to power laptops for days) with you - same setup, so you can plug in your PCC or USB charger in case of overcast days. Just a thought, but I see your point on not wanting to be teathered especialy while hiking around. :)

Take care and I hope you have a great time!!
