i recently got a 5v usb passthrough from madvapes, it does have low voltage protection, where it does not work if there is not enough power going to it... well i have a usb plug in for the wall on its way... will be here next week... well i have been using the passthrough on my laptop.. well im starting to wonder if it can mess up the usb port, or other internal parts in the computer.. because i definitely do NOT want to mess up my macbook.... so please e-cigarette forum, shed some light on my question :D

Thanks, And HAPPY vaping!!! :toast: :vapor:

Some PCs have overload protection and some don't. There are motherboards that share something like 2A between all the USB ports and don't shut down until the load between all of them is 2A. And, there are some that just let the smoke out of the chips. You don't want that.

If your passthrough has a battery box, you are OK. All it does is charge the battery while you are vaping of of it. The battery takes the load.

Computer chips seem to run on smoke, if you let the smoke out of them they stop working :(

So is there a way to tell if your USB ports have protection or how many amps they run?

I just got 2 of the PT's from MadVapes today. I ordered the car adapters but not the wall adapters (thought that the ones I have would power the PT's but evidently they won't, since they don't work)

Funny that the wall adapters will charge my eGo but won't run the PT. I know different amps but couldn't they make it so I don't need 50 dang adapters???? Just sayin'

You need an AC adapter that's at least 2 Amps. You can charge an eGo with regular AC adapters, just takes longer than a 2 amp charger. Some vendors have 2 amp chargers in their ego kits but some don't. You have to read it to be sure.

There IS a chance that if the no-inline PT (the 5v type usually) shorts out it will fry your M'Board. It happened to a poster here (but at WORK LOL I don't know if he 'fessed up about the cause to his boss though).
I used a USB/AC wall plug (the one madvapes sell actually) as I found my 5v PT didnt like my PC ports very much, and anyway, even a slight chance made me a bit nervous. $1000's worth of PC vs $14 plug - no brainer really; I got the plug.

Ok, confused... questions.

1. So, is there any way to safely plug a 5v PT into your computer without worrying abot nuking it?

2. Is there any such thing as an in-line battery PT for the Kr8? I've seen them for the 510, but only the 5v ones for the Kr8.

Probably not a "safe" way but I've never had a problem. You could probably get some kind of surge protector/ short protector to run inline.

the 510 vape and go is the only one i've seen you could always use a Carto adapter, but keep in mind those inline batterys only give you their max rated voltage when you plug them in, not 5 volts. all your actually doing is charging the battery while you vape.

Ok. Well, at this point most of what I use is Kr8 cartos or 901 atties, and I also already have a Kr8->510 adapter (although it's stuck on an E2 carto at the moment... don't ask ). So it would just make more sense for me to get a Kr8 PT with what I have.

...So if I got one of those USB ports with surge protector, that would be safer? I think I may actually have one somewhere...

Or, alternatively, I could just use a USB wall adapter?
