Hello everyone, I've been stalking the ECF for a year or so now, and I decided to come out of the shadows today because I'm preparing to start mixing my own liquid this weekend. I've got it pretty well figured out after watching a lot of videos and reading a bunch of forum posts about it - I've ordered 25 mg nicotine liquid from Xtreme vaping with the intention of cutting it down to a 12.5 mg and PG mix in 3 mL bottles.

The reason I'm posting is because I'm very confused about Lorann Candy Flavors. I live two blocks from Lorann, so today my girlfriend and I went there and bought 10 flavors to use in our DIY liquids.

I've been seeing a lot about how I should avoid food colorings in my liquid across the internet, but I'm not so sure I buy it. I'm a skeptic when it comes to everything, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of the liquids I've vaped throughout the past year (Liquid Xpress, iVape, Altsmoke, DFWVapor, Volcano) have NOT been food coloring-free. I've definitely smoked liquids that have had very vibrant colors, and I'm not sure how someone would achieve that kind of color without the use of food coloring unless the flavors were natural extracts.

(I know this has been brought up multiple times on this forum, but the threads I could find in a google search were all from 2009 and only had users arguing back and forth, hence me asking myself. If someone has a thread where a consensus is met, can you please link me?)

I know that technically the verdict is still out on just about everything concerning e-cigs, but does anyone have any personal experiences they can share? Did vaping DIY liquid with food coloring make you sick? Have you noticed a difference in how you feel? Do you just plain stay away from them? If so, why? Is it because there is scientific evidence that inhaling these in a PG mixture will cause you direct bodily harm, or is it purely speculation?

Truth be told, I'm not that worried; I can't imagine that vaping something with blue 1 and yellow 5 in it would be much worse than smoking regular cigs that contain cyanide and rat poison. But I would rather not be cocky and instead play it safe, especially considering this will be my first time mixing liquid.

Links leading me to actual data would be great, but accounts from people who have vaped liquid made with Lorann Candy Flavorings would be very appreciated as well.

Thank you!

I can't provide anything scientific, but I've used LorAnn cherry, butterscotch, and butter rum flavorings which contain food coloring. I didn't notice any difference, and I'm personally not concerned.

I take two things into consideration:

1) The colors are a small percentage of the flavoring and the flavoring is a small percentage of the end-use liquid. When you get down to having to measure in parts per million for a substance which has been proven safe for human consumption, it doesn't worry me.

2) I use 3 ohm cartos on a 3.7V PV, so the risk of superheating or oxidation of any component is virtually nill. If I was using a low resistance carto on a 5V or Vari-Volt then I might be worried that I'm potentially taking in some tiny percentage of smoke along with the steam.

Oh, and I should probably add that I use such mixes only on days I know I'm going to be chain-vaping almost all day, so I generally run through 8-10ml per day with such liquids, and as I said, I've never noticed any difference.

Go to the DIY section. Plenty of guides there including ones that mark which flavoring are not good for eliquid. As for food coloring, you are stuck with it unless another brand makes the flavor without food coloring. There are many brands of flavoring. Perfumer's Apprentice site lists the ingredients of each of their flavors and also note which ones are not good for vaping.
DIY e-liquid

You can not post in the DIY section yet. You need at least 5 posts or replies in New Members and about a hour wait and then you can post elsewhere.

Re safety - I am pretty confident there is nothing in ecigs that wasn't in tobacco. PG is used as a humectant for tobacco. PG is also used in inhalation therapy in hospitals. It is also concert fog. There is no guarantee anything is safe but it sure is safer than inhaling tar, carbon monoxide, and 4000 chemicals including carcinogens. If you smoke, vaping is safer. If you didn't smoke then you should not vape.

I have a tendancy to agree, I doubt food coloring is bad for e-liquid or vaping but keep in mind, a miniscule fraction of one drop is all that is needed to change the juice color. I mean simply dipping the tip of a toothpick in food coloring and then swishing that in your juice changes the color dramatically. There is so little food coloring used that I don't see how it could be a problem.
