Hi guys, so my evod head just died on me, I do have the replacements coming...in two weeks, however. I did buy some silica wick 2mm and kanthal 0.2mm wire. I know how to do it but I'm running on a Ego so I have no way of checking the ohms it's going to give out, I use 1.8ohm heads. My question is how many turns for a reading of 1.8ohm and how many for 2.2ohm with 0.2mm kanthal and 2mm silica

Cheers in advanced!

You need a multimeter if you are going to be rebuilding heads. Not only for checking resistance, but also for detecting shorts. Also, this belongs in the clearomizer forum.

If you are going to wrap coils anyway before getting a meter, which is not recommended, you could try like 5 wraps. If it seems a little weak, try 4 wraps. Don't use any fewer than that, or you will likely cause your ego to error out. 0.2 mm is 32 gauge, which is what most people refer to it as.

Smart choice! :) It only takes one bad coil to ruin a mod, plus scare you plenty. lol. It's just not worth it. The new Innoken can read ohms and it's running for about $40, I think. They are very simiar in size to an EGO, maybe even a little smaller in diameter. Maybe if you really enjoy rebuilding coils, you should think about investing in a mod that reads ohms. The Innoken Itaste is also variable voltage and variable wattage. They really are a nice mod for the price. Alot of vendors are selling them, but here's a link to one so you know what I'm referring to. :) Innokin iTaste VV V3 Passthrough Battery I got one recently for the office. They also work as a passthrough.

vamo v3 is awesome for building coils on - i bought one specifically for that purpose. unlike many other mods, it's only one click to check the resistance, and checking doesn't require actually firing it. what's even better is if you try to fire a coil that's under 1.2 ohms, it doesn't fire, and it actually shows you the resistance of the coil instead of just saying low ohms.

Thank you so much for your input, I am looking at a Vamo V3 it's just the missus doesn't know about it haha. She's a non vaper or smoker so she doesn't some of the things you do need :p

I agree about the Vamo. I have a V2 and I use it almost exclusively as my multimeter. I have to agree with everyone else and say you really don't want to wrap a coil and throw it on blind. A messed up battery would be a lucky outcome, IMO. Most of us started vaping to avoid the negative side effects of smoking. Just spit-balling here, but I'm pretty sure having a battery malfunction in your hand or near your face would be slightly worse than smoking!!!!!

And OP, I hear ya on the wife thing!! Two things that helped me were, 1) I was able to show that even though I've gone bat-.... crazy buying gear since I started vaping 3 1/2 months ago, I've still spent only about 30-40% of what I WOULD HAVE been spending if I still smoked. And 2) Once I moved off my first battery (Volcano Inferno), I bought her some zero nic liquids and made her her own set up. Much less flak since then! Good luck and Happy Vaping!!

My provari mini fires up to .8 coils, I thought firing during the ohm check was for accurate readings

I use my Provari during the day and the Innoken Itaste also. At the office I switch between them depending on if a client is around, etc. lol. I Vape freely in front of the office workers though. I mean at my desk. I don't walk around doing it. Lol. I love rebuilding the Vivi's with cotton wicks, but I also use evods on the Innoken, and sometimes I use Igo-l's on the Provari instead. At night at home I mostly use my BAM that is kicked. But I'd have to say the Provari is my main mod that reads the coils for me and is my pride. I do rebuild alot of coils.

not sure why it fires when checking the resistance, i could never figure that out. it's not at all necessary for accuracy - if you check the resistance with a fluke, the coil definitely will not fire, and i can guarantee that a fluke is much more accurate than a provari. perhaps it's just a hardware/software limitation?

not to knock the provari, obviously it's a great device, just not one of my top choices for building coils on.
