I use my Motorola Droid one all the time, on my MVP as a passthrough for like right now when I'm on my laptop and it might just be me but it seems to charge faster, it sure did in the car (DC to DC I guess)

I don't leave it sitting there forever, I check the read out and when it's 4.2 I unplug it.

someone had mentioned not using the USB on my laptop to charge it,but I had some guy I worked with at Dell put some kind of code in there to make it "safe" I'm not an engineer so don't ask me what he did.

Prior to that (about four years ago this one's about toast) I' didn't as he said the output wasn't "steady" so go electric.

if y'all know anyone who does that stuff get 'em to fiddle with your laptop it's ever so much more convenient.(and faster I think)

so fyi, it seems usb ports put out 5v, but can vary in mA,(in newer devices) which would only affect rate of charging. as far as i can tell, using the phone charger is basically the same as using a usb port except for varying mA. the battery in my phone is 3.8v, which is really close to the 3.7 the ipv2 says is the typical input. if anyone knows any different, please tell me. thanks.

Any USB 2.0, 3.0 , or 3.1 2amp port on a pc(or mac) should be fine to charge with as these are a minimum of 500ma load capacity. USB 1.0, 1.1 -should not be used as they are only rated at 150ma load. If you have a laptop with a sleep and charge port (has the usb symbol and a lightning bolt)these are rated at 1.5 amp load. Generaly speeking look for a charger that is capable of outputing the same or higher mah/ah as the device requires for charging. The device will not pull more current than is needed. Here is a wealth of good reading on the USB hardware spec. USB - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
