Can regulated mods be converted to a mech?

This thought just came to me as I was reading a post regarding a fellow member asking what he should get next now that is Reg mod doesnt work anymore?

I can see simply replacing lower priced or fixed internal battery ones, but what about those real expensive ones with rare wood and high quality SS or precious metals.

Im wierd, I feel bad tossing anything, especially something expensive or handmade/finished.

Box mod bookends? Tube Reg mod pencil holders?

There's no reason why someone with small device electrical skills couldn't remove a faulty chipset and replace it with the same or updated version. Aside from that, yes... they can be gutted and turned into a high priced semi-mech mod.

Thanks, thats what I figured. Im sure those of you handy and with basic electronic skills could replace or even update the board and chipset etc.

Someone like me would have to send it to a pro and you know what they would charge me. Especially a woman coming in with a fancy vape mod. I could probably buy another new one.

I would probably go the gut and convert to a semi mech.

I just think of all those amazing 300 to 1000 + devices. Unlike Provari ( and even them ) might not be here in a year or so or offer the reasonable service as Pro does. I just got my first real reg and of course my minds starts worrying.

You certainly can't use the same switch though. You'll need some heavy duty mechanical short. The fire switch in regulated mods are probably only rated at 3 amps max, most likely 500mA.

Or you can use the original switch to control a MOSFET.

A mechvari? I got an empty tube somewhere. That would be different

Some of the Yihi chips have a bypass feature that allow your regulated mod to be used as a mech. Won't help though if your chip is out.

The switch would be the hard part, I agree. A mosfet would be the answer I guess. A semi mechanical.

I agree, if I had a high end mod, especially custom or handmade, I wouldn't toss it either . I would replace the chip with whatever current one would fit.

I agree the switch would be the most difficult and the screen would be sad. Having a screen that does do anything would bother me.

Forgot about the screen...Take it out and put a nice piece of contrasting wood or metal, or even semi-precious something?
