those terms have to do with the carto that goes inside the tank. some of them have a flange along the bottom like this:

This helps the carto stay retained in the tank as it cannot be pulled up and out; some tank designs lock the flange from the top and bottom so the carto is completely immobile.

The holes in the carto allow the juice from the tank to flow into the carto, the number of holes adjusts the flow rate. More holes for thicker juices, generally.

A DCTank is a tank that has cartomizer in it. The "D" stands for dual, as in dual coil. The cartomizers come in both single and dual coil. Both work in the DCTank. Most of the time a simple eGo type battery is not sufficient to get the most out of a dual coil, at least it didn't for me.

The cartomizer either has a flange on the bottom or not, hence flanged and unflanged. The flange only allows you to insert it one way into the tank. Sometines the flange has flats that make it fit a certian way.

The number of holes punched determines how much liquid flows into the cartomizer. this is subjective, different liquids and what material is in the carto, plus the user preferance will determine size and amount of holes. More research and trial and error is needed to make a decision on what you'll require.

Any good DCT (standard Smoktech DCT is ~$17, goes up from there) is going to be less expensive than a Protank II or the Davide Glassomizer (~$19) ...but, ongoing cost, replacement heads for the Protank 2/Davide are less expensive than DCT cartomizer replacements ($1.20 vs $1.50) and can be rebuilt/rinsed and used a number of times with different juices - neither is true for the cartomizer.

Just saying that your thinking DCTs are a "cheaper alternative" isn't true.

Not a big fan of DC cartos, but if you're looking for simplicity and economy, single coil, 2 hole cartomizers (such as those used in Valley View Vapes, IBTanked or ElectronicStix tanks) can be cheaper than most anything because if you buy them in bulk, they run about $1.10 per from vendors like Sure Vapes.

I'm tired of having no tanks that are Pyrex and so many tank crackers. I see a cheaper alternative here though because I don't want to shell out for a few protanks.

These on the other hand are cool looking too. Can somebody explain to me flanged, unflanged, one hole punch, two hole punch etc?

If you can handle rebuilding coils there are some of those with pyrex tanks.

In fact I just found out about a new one, that is bottom coil like a ProTank/EVOD, is pyrex, holds 10ml and will likely cost $30-$40 maybe less. It's probably about the same upfront cost as a DCT but rebuilding is much cheaper than replacing cartos.
