Can the Vapor set off a smoke detector?

I just got back from a trip, and I vaped in the lavatory on the planes without problems. Also, during a layover in Denver, I asked a security person where the smoking area was. When she told me how far it was, I asked if that was the only place I could vape. She stated that vaping is legal anywhere in the airport, but that if someone complained, it can develop into a sticky situation. Toilet stalls can be your friend.

One of the biggest problems I had with smoking was traveling and finding a place to have a cigarette. We'll be cruising in a couple of months and I'm told on the Cruise Critic Board that E-Cigs are classified just the same as regular tobacco so you have to be in the 'smoking section' to use them. Some say that they've done it anyway and been 'discreet' and not been bothered. Others say it's just so new and people freak out and carry on (ALL non-smokers do if you ask me .... some are SOOO over the top!! LOL!) so it's just easier to ask the person not to do it. I wondered about doing it in the bathroom on a plane??? Sure wouldn't want to set off the alarm and get kicked off!! LOL!!

As far as the cruise is concerned don't be, well...concerned. We were on Royal Caribbean in January and on Princess in September. I openly vaped in all public areas on both ships and no one even looked at me twice. The only place I didn't vape was in the main dining room. I think even non-smokers/non-vapers are really beginning to get use to this vaping thing. I've vaped on planes (in my seat) too without any issues...but I was more discreet about it. You'll be fine on the ship. Enjoy your cruise.

I vape in my dorm room all 24/7 and have not had a problem with the alarm going off at all, can't say it will be that way for all alarms though

Ever see a building inspector test a smoke detector? They use something likeThis. I had a building inspector leave a can behind, no smoke in that can, and it sets off a smoke detector.

I found that if you blow directly at the detector it will eventually go off. Thus on planes I just blow at the toilet and flush and blow and flush. When everyone is asleep I smoke with deep inhaling and slow exhaling and thats it.

Hotel rooms and stuff are too large for them to go off.

Jack up the drain in the sink in airplane bathroom with a pencil/paper towel, etc.) and it will suction out more than enough vapor to keep the detector from going off. The attendants and passengers around the bathrooms probably can hear all those flushes.


Steam from a hot shower will set off the one in our house occasionally.

Don't think so. I've tried it in hotel rooms and everything seems fine.

I have smoked my e-cigarette in the bathroom stalls at my university. There is a smoke detector directly above the stall. I have never had any problems. I also have smoke detectors in my apartment and have never set them off.

Unfortunately sometimes just dust can even set one off,,lol
