Long story short; my Joye 510 eGo charger is busted. A wire became disconnected in the unit breaking the circuit and no matter what I did I couldnt fix it.

Despite my better judgement I went to the mall to the only place that sold any e-cig products. They seem to focus mostly on Vapor King product line and since I was weary going into it I started off with questions. I told him I have a Joye 510 eGo and the charger died and asked if he had a charger that would recharge the batteries I had. I showed him the battery and he then showed me his current battery; almost identical nearly indistinguishable from my own and his was currently charging on a Vapor King Storm charger. I asked him if that would work with my battery and he told me as far as he knew it should since it's essentially the same battery. He let me plug mine in quickly to see if anything happened and I got the flashing light on my manual battery to tell me it was charging and that was good enough for me. I bought a charger and went home.

I checked my old charger Wall Unit adapter and looked for the input and output on it (Input: 110v-240v 50-60hz Output: 5.0-7.0v max 400ma) and compared it to the new charger and it all matched up, the new charger even said it was Joye on it, so wanting to vape I plugged it in, the light came on and the battery started charging.

About 15min in I wanted to see if it had enough of a charge to vape and when I unplugged it I got no response. Figuring it was completely dead before maybe I didnt charge it enough. I plugged it back in and the light didnt come on this time. Suspecting I burned out my battery I quickly plugged my other battery in and the lights came on. Tried the first one again, no lights.

Now I'm confused... I'm not crazy into electronics but I would assume if all the input and output are identical it would work just fine.

Granted I haven't charged my bats in a while since I wasnt using them and maybe I'm unfamiliar with how they act when they charge plus they are almost 1 year old (about 3 months worth of use in them I'd say)

Can anyone advise me on what to do? Did my battery just up and quit on me coincidentally? Are the chargers different even though the input and output are the same? Will I get a different result if I just plug it into my USB port int he computer as opposed to the wall like I did the first time? I've read the USB port can limit the power going to the battery or maybe I read that thread wrong...

Also I found this on the Vapor King site...

The new Vapor King Storm Charger includes both a wall unit plug along with a USB charger that plugs into it. The USB is a 5v / 450mAh high Speed charger. Note: Only compatible with the Vapor King Storm unit. If used on regular Vapor King batteries this charger will damage them.

Now even though it says this it just says not to use regular Vapor King batteries on it... My battery from what understand is pretty much identical to the this units battery.

Any insight? Please help :(

Batteries have polarities. they have a positive side (+) also called cathode and a negative side (-) also called anode.

When your charger has the correct polarity, crate a nice flow of electrons that recharge your batt.

If your charger has the "wrong" polarity, you get a nice short circuit that fries your batt and /or your charger.

the 510 eGo charger is a CE type (it is written on the charger below the input / output data). Many other chargers have the opposite polarity (FC type).

If the charger you used is an FC type, you just lost your batt. Refrain from trying with your second batt!

Well my eGo charger doesn't say specifically that it is C E on the wall unit adapter anyway... The casing i cant find right this second because i ahd to take it apart to find out why it wasn't charging.

The new Vapor King Storm charger however not only states it is a CE unit but it also states it is a genuine Joye 510 charger on both the wall adapter and the cable's housing...

So... what now?

My starter kit that contained the original charger and batteries came from Liberty Flights and I was under the assumption they were legitimate Joye eGo's...

All of my chargers say CE. It is a possibility that you battery just died and is unusable. Also, if the new charger says CE you should be alright with it. I didn't think Joye made any of them any different. Only precaution to the chargers are if you have the slim 510 batteries, you can't use an eGo charger or it will damage the batteries. However, you can use the slim 510 charger for the eGo batteries but it takes twice as long to charge. Sorry you are having so much trouble.

Yes and I originally checked when I first got my eGo batteries from LF that they were indeed genuine eGo batteries. I cant recall where I found it but theres apparently a difference between the connector that the atty screws into.

Anyway... At this point, if it's the charger... I'd have to order a new one anyway which won't even be shipped until Monday and honestly, if I have to order it online and wait I'd rather buy an entirely new starter kit with a newer model like one of these:

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - MEGA T-Rex

But yeah at this point I guess it seems like a risk worth taking. If it doesnt work, at least I know that the charger was wrong and I can return my purchase and go buy an entirely new unit online. Either way I look at it I'm stuck until mid week either waiting for a new unit or a new charger.

Well or the charger will actually work on my 2nd battery and the first one just gave up~

Can anyone comment as to whether it's safer to charge it through the USB rather than the wall adapter?

Joye 510 USB chargers are 4.2V at 150mAh. They can be used for standard 510 batteries, mega 510 batteries, and eGo batteries (eGo batteries will take forever to charge with this charger but it won't do any damage).

Joye eGo USB chargers are 4.2V at 420mAh. They should only be used on the higher capacity eGo batteries. This charger will cook 510 batteries....too much juice.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for the confusion... I attribute it to being out of the vaping game for a while. I kept referring to my eGo as a 510 but obviously its not both, I was confusing the fact that the eGo is compatible with the 510's attys/carts/etc... but it's this exact unit:

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Joye eGo

Its not a slim 510 battery I'm using it's an eGo 650mAh battery.

And this the charger I bought that states clearly its CE, and same input / output as the above eGo charger and again this Storm charger actually says on the wall adapter and the charger cable housing that its Joye.

Yeah, no worries....the eGo batteries can be charged with the 510 charger, but it's going to take a very long time. The math is simple, basic eGo battery is 650mAh in capacity. The eGo charger provides 420mAh, so it's charged in a couple hours.

Working with a 150mAh 510 charger, you're going to take 4-5 hours to capture that 650mAh.

It seemed that your confusion was related to the charger and battery types. Speaking generally here, I don't know for sure what the other vendors are selling, so if you might want to contact them to be sure.

;)

Again jus to be clear, I'm working with a 650mAh eGo battery and the NEW charger is 4.2V 420mAh.

I actually found the box it originally came in with the specs and everything and they all line up so...

I guess this means the 1st battery was just a coincidence? How long should it take for a dead battery to charge to the point where it will work again even if just for a few puffs?

And is it possible the 1st batteries manual button light gave out?

Well I gave it a go... I popped the 2nd battery on the charger and it seemed fine. While it was going I screwed in an cartomizer to the first battery and boom it flashed a buncha times telling me to recharge it... Magically it was working again or so I thought...

Apparently I've been gone so long I wasn't thinking clearly that you have to have an atty or cartomizer screwed in for it to work XD

SO yeah in the end it was my memory and lack of familiarity with this since I've been outta the game so long that was the problem. The charger works just fine but I'm still glad I asked before I went ahead and possibly ruined my other battery. Although now I feel like I wanna grab that new Mega T-Rex anyway... Longer battery, cooler charge indicator... and I can get one that has dual coil cartomizers if I stick with the same size battery I have now... but yeah the dual coils I'm kinda dying to try...

TY all for all your help I appreciate it!
