Can you ruin an atty by testing it?

Only if you push the probe down inside the atomizer, wedge it under the nichrome and yank it out! Just putting the test leads on the outside of the atomizer, when removed from the battery can't hurt it...

I just used the battery end. It was an ego mega atty which has the battery connections recessed inside of the cylinder.

Yes, I did clean the threads but it didnt help. I am cleaning it now to see if it might help. Might just be a coincedence as you said. My other atty that i tested is going strong so who know. I just thought maybe I could have shorted something out while testing it. I have no knowledge of watts, ohms etc...ignorant when it comes to electricity'

If the resistance of the atty really is ~3 ohms and the battery really is good, then the most likely cause for no heat is that the center contact of the atty is not making good contact with the center contact of the battery. You can try gently prying the attys center contact with something like an eyeglass screwdriver. The center contact should be very close to the same height as the outer threaded ring.
