one of the first kits i got was one called 'supercigarette'
i still have cartridge refills for it.
The problem is the place I got it from did not sell replacement atomizer pieces; I'd have to buy another kit with 2 batteries and charger to get a replacement atomizer.

After that i got a South Beach Smoke kit; this one had the atomizer and cartridge in 1 piece; tasted pretty good too.
Meanwhile I had also got onto v-nano and ego type batteries.
the south beach was using (i believe) kr-808, and I could not use the cartridge with the more commonplace 510 threaded batteries, so i gave up on them;

I found the v-nano's very good for helping me quit smoking and vape instead, but ultimately it's a throwaway device; it's plastic, and you can't replace the coils.

When I got some protanks and ego batteries, at that point I could see a sustainable way to continue vaping.

At this point, I mostly use mechs with kicks and rda's
astro telescopic m21x1 mech; sigelei kick; 30mm veritas rda

I have tried over 30 "brands". I use at least 10 "makes" of e-cig component.

Mostly, the brands claiming to be the best are the worst and the most expensive. A brand that likes to call itself the #1 brand in the US, also charges $120 for a $30 e-cig.

Kanger, Innokin, Aspire, Eleaf rarely ever make claims about being "the best". That's because 99% of their products are sold through shops that let the product do the talking.

Most "brands" are just a rip-off. There is a difference between a "make" and a "brand".

You'll get a wide variety of answers to this question. Most vapers start out with the cigalike batteries, and although they may allow you to quit smoking, their battery performance and choice of juice attachments are seriously lacking.

The vast majority of folks upgrade to either an eGo battery setup (cigar sized) or a "mod" (advanced personal vaporizer) setup for more useful features such as longer battery time per charge, more options for juice attachments, power regulation of the battery, and built-in voltage/resistance meters. These more advanced setups are much larger than a cigarette sized battery, but the advanced features become more important than how our devices look to others. Besides, we are no longer smoking, but now vaping. It's a different animal altogether.

Personally I started out with a cigalike starter setup (SmokelessImage), as I thought my device needed to look like a cigarette. Within a couple of weeks I grew disappointed with the battery life and no options to improve the juice attachment. I skipped the "intermediate level" eGo setups and purchased my first mod and upgraded the juice attachment to a cartotank.

The best purchase in my 3 year vaping career was a Provari. It's a high end regulated mod with a stellar reputation, built to last many years, and supported by the American manufacturer who will support it for life. To this day I'm still using a Provari.

Vaping soon became a hobby and I began to collect different mods. I've owned a dozen different kinds of mods, and I keep going back to my Provari. It's just so darn dependable and reliable, and built like a tank. My other mods that were manufactured in China either broke or stopped working after a period of time, with no option to get them repaired (Most Chinese manufacturers do not offer product support for repair). So in my mind, paying more for a Provari worked out financially better than the other mods in the long run.

Actually Eleaf got busted on "Reddit" recently for having many many accounts and only raving about their own products and criticizing other manufacturers products .

Most think they have been doing this on many large e cig forums since the beginning , Eleaf also will refuse warranty coverage if you buy their products from an authorized vendor , makes no sense i know but it's true , you have to buy directly through Eleaf only to get a warranty lol.

Stay with Innokin or the others .

I can believe that. However, they are not in your face at the shopping mall or pretending to be the #1 brand at Spinfuel.

I don't go on reddit, so I'll pass on making comment.

A fast rising Company, that ships worldwide and produces high quality vaping products is faporfi ....(vaporfi dot com) The only problem with them is their products are pretty pricey compared to others. But, you do get really good quality products. Listen to the other folks here and they will give you many good choices to check out. Good luck.

I'll be honest.... I wished I had just jumped right in at the beginning instead of stepping things bit by bit as I could have saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars had I just bought something "good" at the beginning and not farted around with cig-look-alikes and cheap-o knockoffs and juice that wasn't fit for testing on rodents.

So buy the best you can afford now instead of stepping it up all the time as you'll save a great deal of money ultimately by buying something that your dad will be happy with and want to stick with.

Cig look alikes did nothing for me other than lighten my wallet by about $55.00 for each starter kit and $30 some odd dollars for a few packs of refills.

I think you'll need to find a flavor profile that fits your dad and try to find complimentary flavored liquids in about an 18mg nic level then he can step it down if he so pleases (or step it up if he needs to).

Personally, I think a KangerTech Subtank is about perfect, you can rebuild your own coils if you so please, or use convenient store bought coils and open up the air flow to wide open or tighten it up really tight. It's only con side is that it doesn't hold 10ml so that I don't have to refill it every day or day and a half.

Oh and most importantly, Dad needs (NEEDS) to want to stop smoking. If he doesn't really WANT it, he may make all kinds of excuses on why he's gone back to smoking the stinkies, from it doesn't satisfy me, or the flavor is gross, or it's too difficult, I just want to light it and go etc.

I'd say that the bare minimum that I would now find acceptable if I had to start all over again would be an ego twist battery and either the Nautilus tank or the Aerotank Mega. But then be prepared for buying more and better stuff as he advances.

thanks everyone for the reply,,, i have been trying to absorb the information here:p
to be honest, i have no idea about the terminologies at all! so generally people start from a branded product them switch to MOD? and the reason for switching is that so the components are stronger and there are more flavours to choose from?
I would say that the reason most people move away from "brands" like Blu, NJoy etc. is because they are not very satisfying and more expensive in the long run. Even a basic Ego style battery with a cheap disposable plastic tank is way better than a cig-alike and cheaper in the long run.

How old is your dad. That's a question I don't see anybody ask. If he's "old school" and walked uphill in the snow both ways to school and such, he may be resistant to the idea of a fancy looking rig. He may want to start out on something that looks and feels more like a cigarette.

my dad is mid 50s, he's not old school, actually he came to me asking for my help to do some research for him:p
and yeah i do need to find an affordable product for him in the long run!

Aspire nautilus tank. About $20ish and it will be something he will likely keep and use forever. It's the 1st thing I actually enjoyed vaping on. The big one has an optional metal sleeved tank that looks fairly cool and offers protection from "man"ual activity or clumsiness. As far as the mod, let him help pick one. 30W or higher so he will have a little head room to grow if he gets into rebuildables later. The iStick is a popular choice, but I prefer removable batteries. Check around and see what he likes. Do some shopping online with him. Be sure to check the reviews you find here on the equipment before you buy.

I think an e-go or evod style starter kit is a good place to start. it takes time to adjust to vaping and starting with a high power unit may cause him to cough to much.I still use my e-go batteries and GS-H2 tank for stealth vaping but my EK- V3 with a nemesis mod is my go-to ADV unit now. on occasion I like vaping DK bavarian cream or vanilla ice cream in my orchid V4 but other flavors taste too hot in this tank. if your father is successful in quitting smoking he will likely try several tanks and mods before he find one he really likes but many people have quite with these cheap starter kits. I started with something like this Tank Vaporizer Vape Pen USB Charger 1100mAh Battery Kit Juice | eBay

I started off with a Blu situation, that was a mess. I don't recommend those at all, they're garbage and never once actually got me to stop smoking.

I then moved to an eGo style device with a clearomizer. It was alright, a big step up, but still never really got me that throat hit/nicotine satisfaction.

Then I moved to RDA's and higher-wattage, bigger cloud-producing devices. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that for your father, but I would suggest skipping the eGo and cigalike phase, going straight to a device like an iStick 30W and a nice Nautilus Mini. It's still reminiscent of a cigarette but will allow him to get a nice amount of vapor with a "cigarette-style" draw.
