I suggest a 30-50 watt mod-- the iStick 30 and 50, plus the iTaste MVP 3.0 and MVP 3.0 Pro all leap to mind-- and an Aspire nautilus tank would be the place st start. All of those choices give a lot or room to adjust to preference, and are quality gear that will last a while. Then you can begin the hunt for juice...

I would say that the reason most people move away from "brands" like Blu, NJoy etc. is because they are not very satisfying and more expensive in the long run. Even a basic Ego style battery with a cheap disposable plastic tank is way better than a cig-alike and cheaper in the long run.
hi thank you ! im not sure if i understand you correctly - is it possible that electronic cigarette cant satisfy the tabaco crave? is that what you meant by " they are not satisfying?" is it something to do with the flavor of the juice? or the strength?

I was referring to the mass marketed e-cigarettes that are designed to look like a real cigarette. The problem with them is mostly due to the fact that the battery inside has to be small. Small battery equals less power and shorter use time. So yes it's the "strength", in that, they don't put out enough energy to vaporize enough liquid to be satisfying.

The term "electronic cigarette" is very vague and means different things to different people. Many of the members here would prefer that the term "electronic cigarette" had never been used in the beginning since the devices most of us use do not resemble cigarettes in any way.

The first thing I tried was an NJoy disposable "electronic cigarette". I didn't like it much but it got me interested enough to do some research on the internet to find a better device. That research opened up a new world of devices that I never knew existed. I watched many videos on YouTube and decided to buy a Ego starter kit to see if it would help me quit smoking. After receiving the kit (and charging the battery), I was convinced that it would work. I haven't smoked tobacco since. I now have much better equipment available to use but still use Ego batteries at some times.

People say that mods and rebuildable tank atomisers are only for the experienced vapers. Personally i'd say they are only for people who are grown up because it doesn't take long to figure out what's what. There is a small learning curve but no more complicated than learning how to operate your new tv's remote control. If you're a grown up then it shouldn't be a problem to get your head round building a coil in a rebuildable tank atomiser. You just wrap a piece of wire round something to make a coil, does that sound complicated ?. And this comment is enough to encourage others to explain why it isn't exactly as simple as that but i don't want to baffle you with science. I'll leave that to someone else.

I would suggest something like an Innokin MVP 20w with an Aspire Nautilus Mini tank, along with a pack or two of replacement coil heads and a sample pack of juice or two to try. I use a slightly less powerful Innokin MVP 2.0, which is only 11watts, but has plenty of power to use the Nautilus Mini and to vape for a few days before recharging, the battery is very solid and can take a beating and has been well reviewed for the two years it's been out. The Nautilus Mini is regarded as one of the best tanks that resembles smoking a cigarette, the flavor is good and it's easy to use.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask, we're here to help! :)

I'll try to make it easy :)

Aspire Nautilus Mini and replacement coil packs (for tanks.)

For the battery part, show him:

Innokin Coolfire IV
Innokin mvp 20W
Innokin mvp 3.0
Eleaf istick 30W
Let him pick one or two. Two tanks and two batteries is better. He should have a backup in case he has an issue so he has something to vape (and doesn't go buy cigarettes).

Hi everyone, newbie here.. im trying to help dad quit smoking
there are too many choices in the market and every brand seem to claim that they are the best.. can you tell me why you choose a certain brand? or why you gave up on a brand you have tried in the past? that would be very helpful so i have some ideas about what to get....
thank you heaps:)

Try looking at starter kits, if you're looking to introduce your dad to the world of vaping. I highly recommend Kanger eVod. Easy to use, and great brand with great quality goods.
Its very easy to go cheap, and get sour on vaping just because the equipment.
Maybe some of the other members can point you to other starter kits that have helped them!
For me, Kanger eVod ftw. :)

Lots of great info in here. Hardware is very important, as is selecting a good juice. I struggled with giving up cigs...even with excellent equipment, because I had a heck of a time finding a juice that closely simulated the smoking experience. It wasn't until I tried a NET (naturally Extracted Tobacco) type juice that I was able to put cigs down for good (I'm only 7 weeks into my journey, but am confident that I have said goodbye to them forever). The juice that has really helped me is made by Black Note (8 different flavours and I like them all). It is pricey stuff but the choices for NET liquids in Canada is somewhat limited...to my knowledge. There are lots of NET liquids on the market...someone with better experience might be able to help you out in that department.

Aspire Nautilus Mini on an itaste was my first setup
If i was going to buy my first setup now I would switch out the itaste for an istick 20w because its a better device.
I personally was a social smoker and very rarely even bought my own smokes. I switched because more of my friends were getting into vaping and its a much better expeirence than cigarettes. Plus I'm a hobbyist and proud to say I enjoy this hobby.

I used to smoke marlboro reds/blacks and lucky strike, which are pretty strong ones.

First of all, your father must be determined to quit smoking.

I'd not recommend eGos (looks like pen) since they do not last long and unstable as battery depeletes.

I had really good experience with sigelei mini 30w with samsung 25r 18650 battery and kanger t3d tank

but for tank, get something like kanger aerotank or aspire nautilus (i've heard good opinions about them), since they dont leak crazy like t3d i've used.

It would be great if you can spare some time for your father and take him to local vape shop.

Also keep in mind that at this moment there are no exact tobacco/cigarrette clones. (there are some close ones, but not good enough)

Actually Eleaf got busted on "Reddit" recently for having many many accounts and only raving about their own products and criticizing other manufacturers products .

Most think they have been doing this on many large e cig forums since the beginning , Eleaf also will refuse warranty coverage if you buy their products from an authorized vendor , makes no sense i know but it's true , you have to buy directly through Eleaf only to get a warranty lol.

Stay with Innokin or the others .

I don't think that's entirely true about eleaf. I can't speak for the reddit part but i had problems with my istick so I brought it back to the shop got it from and eleaf sent me a brand new one to replace it.

I also recommend the Innokin MVP 20 to start on. It's what I started on in March and I'm still using it. I bought a second one too. I also have a 30 watt iStick and now I use it as my "going out" battery since it's small and light.

For tanks, the Nautilus is probably the best starter tank because it's ubiquitous and popular. I have been using eleaf GS Air tanks and I like them. (I started out with Kanger Protank 3 tanks and their air flow isn't as good and they leak.) Good luck to you and your father!

Started with cigalikes. Skip them, they can be a good stepping stone but the battery life is too much of a chore. A basic cigar like setup can get you started but the mods and more advanced tanks can do so much more and it's not just a gimmick. Here's my I stick 30w and Subtank nano, ordering both online would cost roughly 60. This allows you to control vapor production, vapor temp, how hard of a draw you want, and the ability to swap tanks and batteries. I keep mine in a men's shirt breast pocket and no one can see it.
