Ok. The tobacco industry, big pharmaceutical, and Health Canada need a whistle blower. I really can't come to grips that Canada has NOT done extensive testing on E-cigarettes. Particularly as Canadian ANTZ are blowing all sorts of steam for the last 4 years about the dangers of E-cigarettes and youth. The latest thing that got me going was that I discovered a 4 year old pack of Nicorette gum from one of my unsuccessful quit attempts. (I remember stacking it with Zyban) On the package it states the following.

"Although quitting smoking is preferable, NICORETTE Gum can also be used as a part of a REDUCE TO QUIT program in which it is used to reduce the number of cigarettes smoked prior to quitting in smokers who are not able or ready to quit abruptly. It can also be used in cases in which you temporarily refrain from smoking, for example in smoke-free areas or situations when you wish to avoid smoking. Each piece of Nicorette gum contains 2mg of nicotine. Helps whiten your teeth while you quit."

So there are benefits such as teeth whitening! You can even use it if you have no intent whatsoever to quit! Restaurants, at work! If more and more kids are turning onto E-cigarettes these days, then WHY hasn't Health Canada done more research???

The answer maybe is this. They have done EXTENSIVE research, but couldn't come up with anything to prove E-cigarettes are a health hazard to the nation, so the research was shelved. (Or as we say in the military "$ H%* canned") Again...why kill the tobacco industry which earns millions, and probably billions of dollars in taxes for the government each year!?!? Money that even surpasses the government costs of medical care that is needed for people dying of smoking related diseases. And of course when the smokers die before retirement, there are no pension payouts. Win-Win for the government.

So all we hear is the same old hot air. "Ohhh...They are a gateway for our children to tobacco....blah, blah, blah..."

I'll tell the government one thing. You start vaping e-cigarettes and switch to real cigarettes and you are in for a nasty surprise! Smoke tastes disgusting! (I smoked for 33 years). I want one person to come here and say "I started with E-cigarettes, but I switched to much more expensive tobacco cigarettes, because it was cooler!" I doubt I will find that person!

So yeah...I hope one Jeffrey Weigand type person will come out of the skeleton closet and leak a few emails that went from HC to Big Tobacco or such and post it on Wikileaks. We need this. We need research, we need pharmacy grade nicotine made readily available in Canada, and we need E-cigarettes to be legalized, and I don't mean legalized into the hands of our governments.

Good night, and Happy Holidays!

Maybe I'm confused - but I've seen it often mentioned about ecigs 'killing the tobacco industry' - but isn't the nicotine liquid used in ejuice still extracted from the tobacco plant/roots?

I'd think that the profit margins on pure nic are not nearly as nice as when you slap the leaves in paper and sell them for $10+ a pack. I mean, $100 of nic liquid lasts you a loooooooong time.

The lions share of that $10 goes to the feds. As mentioned before it's a tax issue more than anything, same reason why making moonshine is "illegal".

Government is a business, they won't do anything that might hurt their bottom line.

Yes it is but in the case the money would go the farmer and not the tobacco company, if they made it free and easy to make anything Nicotine the tobacco farmer could sell to many buyers, whereas the way the rules state right now they are very limited in who they can sell to so most contracts are inherently bad for the grower himself.

Never mind the synthetics they could grow in labs in less time for nicotine extract. The way the rules and contracts are set up right now greatly benefit the tobacco companies, but in this changing landscape they could watch those same growers make more money off of less work, which hurts them greatly.

edit: Ecigs are also not labelled Tobacco products, the are Nicotine infused products and to make a new class for them could cause a entirely new headache, since Nicotine is found is so many common foods. One could argue to outlaw tomatos or make them prohibited because thier nicotine levels are high enough that someone could become addicted to the Nicotine in them.
