I guess my question is this...I quit smoking in March, why am I having these problems now 4 1/2 months later? By the way Classwife, I appreciate the link to that article!

There are a lot of things our bodies go through for *years* after we quit smoking in order to heal. The first full year is the biggest healing period for your body and lungs. If it helps put it into any sort of perspective at all, it takes around five years to recover from all of the carbon monoxide and other chemicals on the level that your blood vessels and circulatory system return to actual "normal".

in addition to what everyone else said, including if it doesn't clear up get to a Dr. not sure if you're describing a Cold Sore on the outside of your lips (which I used clean techniques of course and keep a chapstick close at hand at all times) but Lysine is really great (a dietary supplement found in the vitamin section at any store)and really helps clear those up.

check out some oral thrush pictures, and other mouth sores, if it's any of those that are bacterial or fungal you're going to need to get to a doc for Rx, warm salt water gargles are the best.

got pictures? *lol* (sorry it's just a shot in the dark otherwise for me)

an occasional mouth sour is common when first starting to vape. Can be caused by excessive juice splatter in mouth also. Part of it is your body detoxifying from tobacco products and body adapting to vape and not smoke. Should clear up after a short while, and disappear altogether once you body has adapted to the change. Of course like with anything, if problems persists and get worse, do see a doctor about it, and make sure they are up to date on the science of vape.

If your atty is getting excessively hot, that can help chap lips. Also I found high PG to be harsh, and once changing to 70-80% VG juice, everything vaped much smoother. :D

Lately I have had really painful soars in my mouth and my lips are constantly chapped. I'm wondering if vaping would cause this or is it just a coincidence? This soar in my mouth is REALLY painful!! Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

As you note, we ain't doctors (well, not most of us at least?). But...

Quitting smoking by ANY method does have its own "side effects". Tobacco smoke has 4,000+ chemicals in it, some of are actual, outright poisons (cyanide for instance!).

There's some good reasons to suspect that the smoke kills bacteria (etc) that were already present and slows them down. "Masking" problems you already had but we're developing slowly. Removing those regular doses of poison can let the critters "take off" and the existing issue emerges.

One I see talked about a lot and went through myself involves tooth pain. The vaping doesn't "cause" it so much as the smoking slowed it and masked it. When you stop smoking, blood flow to the mouth returns to normal and things can get wonky. In my case, it was an old root canal that went nuts. Thought I was headed for the dentist but then it calmed down.

I'd say give it some time. Unless it just keeps getting worse or is intolerable. Then, yeah, get to a doctor. But it can actually be a really annoying sign your body is trying to recover now that you've stopped inhaling toxic smoke.

Oh, man, who knows? I'm having weird trouble with my sleep habits 15 freaking months in. Not to mention, my pollen allergies have gotten worse.

Think about how long you smoked. Can you really expect your body to shift gears in a week?

I started vaping in February of this year after never smoking regular cigarettes. Recently, I discovered a canker sore and sore tongue as well as sensitive gums. I went to the dentist today and she confirmed that it is a canker sore and not related to my teeth. Since I have been using pg without any harmful symptoms in months, I suspect it is from the Cinnamon flavored e-liquid that I've recently been using. Just to be sure, I've ordered some samples of 100% VG e-liquid to try. Oh, I also appreciate all the tips about making sure the drip tips are clean. I'll certainly be more diligent about that!

I do haVE ONE OTHER PROBLEM THAT MIGHT RELATE to what I mentioned before. I can't really taste the different flavors of my juice any more. I've changed the coils, so that isn't it. I find myself smelling and trying to guess which flavor is which. This is new too, since until this week the flavors were VERY distinct.

Look around the forum (and Google) about "vaper's tongue". Happens at times to a lot of us. Happened to me and it's really annoying. It passes but for reasons nobody knows, your ability to taste your juice just goes away a while. It's weird. But temporary.

Good time to use up a juice you didn't care for and save the good ones for when your taste comes back. :)
