one of the huge issues with type2 is the reduction of bloodflow to extremities like feet. hence loss of toes and amputations if not controlled. I'd think since smoking reduces bloodflow it would help considerably in that regard.
on the other hand, gastric bypass cures type2. dad was 450 at heaviest, but has been 300+ all his life and was an overweight kid and teen. the only time he wasn't overweight was in basic when he got down to 150 (6'1, but he has a small frame actually) and went right back up again right after.
To put into perspective however - he carried it ALL in the middle. prior to surgery he was a 58-60 waist in pants. crazy
he smoked pretty heavily even after diagnosed with type2 (20yrs ago) and quit smoking about 15yrs ago. hasn't touched them since which still really surprises me, even after he married another smoker 7yrs ago.
He had the G.Bypass 2yrs ago and he's barely 180 soaking wet and needs to have skin surgery now...
The change in how he is moving around and feeling to ME is HUGE. course he lives in chicago and I'm in texas so I don't see him very often so it's pretty dramatic when I do.
in about 9m post surgery he was 100% off insulin.
I tell you what though...if he was still smoking, I'd be all over him to be on ecigs in a heartbeat!
my mom has been smoking since she was 9 and she's 56 now...so nearly 50yrs. Smoked through all 4 pregnancies, was in ICU in a medically induced coma after being shocked back to life twice and given 17u of blood, and the first thing she said when they woke her was "can I go outside? because if you don't wheel me out...i'm lighting up in here"
*facepalm* mom....sheesh.
She's visiting me in 3 weeks and i'm totally going to in-vap-a-nater
